phantom melee

After playing a decent amount of time with phantom a big problem i noticed is when u melee someone and they just start to run or back up. If u try to switch to primary u will most likely get killed by the person y tried to kill or someone else will come along

I also noticed that his heavy swing is a bit useless atm. I get ocasional kills on sparks and auras with heavy stab + 15% melee increase but other than that it is slow and misses the mark a lot of times.

I think his heavy stab should lunge him forward. This would help on runners and give it a bit more use. His melee would also become a bit more uniqe.

Also his normal slash could do a bit of a splash damage if two enemy mercs are very close to each other. The farther that merc is from original slash the less damage he takes.

Possible ideas to help the melee side of phantom.

Ps- i use 15% melee increase on katana phantom and i feel like it dosnt really help much… anyone else feel like that?

Only reason for chopper is to push the m2 damage on katana stab to 102 damage: over the 90 ish normal damage. Really not too important unless you somehow stab a Phoenix. - The Kek-10 is important for Phantom: he does his best damage using his gun.

Melee was nerfed substantially when people felt the game was too melee-focused even after phantom’s mouse2 multi-hit part was removed. People complained: the game changed - making mouse2 useless against erratically moving people.

Phantom’s cloak is very good while standing still: just avoid moving outside of a walk (which still gets you spotted fast) - Phantom’s cloak is very loud as well, so you shouldn’t be going for melees anyways.

You just shouldn’t be aiming to go for melee kills…good way to get yourself killed.

He isn’t a melee character…

Then… don’t melee? HE’S NOT A MELEE MERC FOR GOD’S SAKE. BEST SMG IN THE GAME, I KNOW LET’S MELEE INSTEAD THAT’S A GOOD IDEA THAT WON’T GET ME KILLED.

Christ almighty. You lot and your obsession with making a recon merc melee orientated.

Yea… after hearing some info on better ways to use phantom (i already have kek. Card) i have been improving and am doing a lot better with him… i see where everyone is coming from.

You need to be somewhat of a scumbag to make the katana a murder machine. The critical knowledge is that you are nigh undetectable while cloaked and crouched. You can take advantage of this to make people walk right past you. Once you’re behind them they might as well already be dead. Picking the right targets is also crucial. Find people who are on their own. If you see a group, try to work your way from the back so no one else notices you’re picking them off. If you don’t think you can win the fight, just don’t fight at all. Call it being a coward but all phantom can do is kill. If you don’t have a positive KDR (minimum 2.0, preferably 3.0) you’re doing your team a disservice.
If that text wall was too much; wait for people to run past you cloaked, don’t make your kills obvious, run away if you have to.
