Phantom = Melee Or Ranged?

So I’ve seen Phantoms role call. Do you guys reckon he will be more of a melee or ranged merc?

He’ll be whatever the user is best with. Cloak is short lived but I am sure people will be skilled in getting in close and people will also rock with his SMGs. He’s an assault merc with a cloak and that’s all I would classify him as, whatever you can do with that is fair game and up to the user.

I just hope he never gets the tf2 spy’s instakill from behind. Unless he said his comedy lines when he did it…A. for my amusement. B. As an audible balancing tool.

source? One time he kills a repairing bushwacker and also gibs him, true, but then at 0:56s, he faces a Proxy, stabs, and needs to manually finish.

I don’t get why people are so afraid of Phantom instagibbing other mercs with his katana when, for example, Aura with Chopper and Stilleto can right click-down anyone under ~115 hp.

They have pretty much ruined the notion of “melee mercs”. Going by what he was to what he is, it’s very obvious that they want all mercs to focus on firearms.

When I buy Phantom, I fully intend on using him as a gun class and only using the cloak to shield myself or to flank. Of course I’ll use the katana sometimes, but only when it seems necessary.

This! The way he looks like he will much more firearm based, I will simply use his cloak/shield to flank and retreat and I will expect him to be slightly nerfed if he is released in the same state as he was in the video.

He has a Kek-10. Definitely his most viable playstyle will be ranged with using his cloak as a shield. It might be fun to catch newbies in melee range though. Depending on how effective the cloak is it might even work against good players.

Yup. I am excited for him simply because the shield will let you survive in MANY situations where you should not and he has access to the Kek10. Melee with him is sort of just a bonus if I happen to be running a card with it included…and I have a feeling the Kek10 won’t be getting the katana.

The right mouse button attack must do somewhere between 100 to 110.

Phantom invisibility is so good that i cant even buy him and put on my lineup, hope is get nerfed next patch
