Phantom Idea's

(ludicrousBlast) #1

Yes, I know there are plenty of these, just my ideas.

I have a couple of ideas for phantom that might make him more balanced. Keep in mind, there are just ideas based on my opinion on what would make him more viable. It would be great to keep this civilized.

#1 - Less visibility: This is pretty simple. Right now, Phantom might as well be a “kid with a sheet over his head pretending to be a ghost” (could not find who wrote this, sorry) The only place you probably could not see him is if he is in a corner, and crouching. I also think that his armor and cooldown should stay as is.

#2 - Another ability of some sort to help his team more: He might as well be classified as assault instead of recon, because he is good for nothing but kills. (Still fun to play as) Here is an idea I had: A spotter tool of some kind, which he has two of with a 15 second cooldown for each. They can be used to spot one person each, and when spotted it would highlight the enemy’s outline, (and maybe display their health? I thought that might be cool)

#3 - Some sort of fix to his sword, right now the lunge will pretty much only hit if you are hugging someone, making it useless against someone moving. Not to mention, quick slashing with the knife will usually kill the same speed, if not faster. I don’t know what would be able to fix this without making it stupid again, but as of now, it is kind of useless.

#1 Partly agree, he is a little too visible now. Previously he was far too invisible, but since he was nerfed he is quite obvious. Maybe reduce the visibility, a bit, for running speed but massively increase it for sprinting (or even have sprinting reduce cloak energy) so that he can’t catch the squishy mercs (aura, proxy etc.) without being seen to give everyone a fighting chance.

#2 Completely agree. I like your idea too. Personally, I think that marking enemies should be what the recon class does. Vasili has his heartbeat sensor, Redeye has his IR goggles, Phantom has nothing. If he could use his cloak to get behind the enemy and mark the important targets he would be more useful. I think this would need to be usable with the cloak still active. Perhaps he could mark things like aura stations and turrets instead/as well.

As an “out-there” idea, he could place some sort of fire-support marker which allows Kira/Arty/Skyhammer to target an area without having LoS to the ground at that location. So he gets behind the enemy, finds their hard-point/choke-point, and marks it for bombardment. Not entirely sure how this would work, which is why it’s a bit of a wild idea.

#3 I can’t comment on this as I don’t play phantom very much (because he doesn’t seem to have any utility to my team) so I’m not familiar with how the sword functions now.

#1 Agreed His cloak visibility is too much, before overpowered katana and quick recharging cloak aside his cloak visibility was understandable, at a distance he wasn’t easy to notice ad medium range it took a bit of focusing and at close range one could easily hear his cloak’s buzzing along with a noticible shimmer, now the noise was made louder and his visibility so much so one can easily spot him, I understand he can’t have complete visibility and I’ve tested on both higher and lower settings and have to see he’s too easy to spot.

Besides that, if he doesn’t get a spotting ability maybe make his cloak not drain when standing still, this would make it great for being a meatshield for teammates or pouncing unsuspecting enemies that ignore the obvious and loud buzzing it does.

#2 I’ve got 3 ideas for this.

Maybe one being a silenced tracking/dart pistol that can be fired while cloaked that marks an enemy longer than other Recon skills.

A copy Brink’s Operative ability “Comms Hack” in which Phantom would hack an enemy’s phone while they’re incapped, Showing the enemy on teammate’s minimap, giving him the most effective indirect detecting ability, seeing it as his version of a more powerful Vasilli heartbeat sensor while Aimee’s camera can be seen a very powerful line of sight based detection, similar to Redeye’s monocle.

Or a copy of another ability “Homing becon” in which after 2-3 seconds of having an enemy on his crossairs the enemy would be detected, but less effective than the pistol due to not having to hit an enemy.

#3 This can be said about every melee weapon in a way, the RMB/Lunge on all of them had a sort of delay to their attack, that and limited movement made it wonky, I’ve used the RMB stab with the Katana and it’s genuinely only effective to use on enemies that haven’t suspected you at all from behind, like a backstab of sorts. In short, This limiter for the Katana? Yes. For anything else? No. (I understand complaining that the stealthy guy having to rely on a backstab sounds stupid but considering #1 He isn’t that stealthy and his Refractive armour can surpringly make him a bigger give away than running around without it, and the armor not that effective there is little one can do as Phantom that they can’t do as anyone else stealth wise.)
