Phantom doesn't need a nerf it needs to be redone.

From above, Phantom doesn’t need a nerf. He needs to be changed from a tank to an objective player or distractor for the rest of the team.

He needs MORE base hp. Haha, didn’t expect that did you?

No shield when he’s in camo.

A weaker quick attack. (So he doesn’t annhilate proxies and auras)

A stronger strong attack. (So he still has purpose, maybe as an assassin?)

Better camoflague when moving, but also a louder sound to counterbalance it.

He also needs to be slightly slower.

His strong attack instead of being a lunge could be something like a slow/charge up beheading melee strike. Not only does this sound awesome on paper it would prevent medics from reviving them. Further solidifying his role in the team as an assassin and objective planter that bypasses defending teams that are strong and push up too far.

This will fix the range of his attack whilst allowing him to take out multiple enemies in an area.

What this serves to do is make him more of a stealthy objective planter and not a solo meat shield and killer.

To the developers. Is Phantom a stealthy Ninja or a tanky Samurai? He needs to be one of these things not both.

He’s a money printing machine

Even if he is, so what? So we deal with a MINORLY OP merc for like 4 weeks, the developers get a balls tonne of cash and can afford to make additions to their team etc. The game gets bigger and merc come out fatser, bugs are fixed faster and the game becomes generally better.
Im fine with that.

perhaps a new/old trend, release new game char/weapon/ability, make it op so people wanna jump on the train, balance a few weeks later.
same happened with sparks.

anyway i agree, either a fast squishy louder ninja or a face to face tanky samurai, not both, and no smg please, the revolver is strong enough alone.

I do think that Phantom does need to be nerfed. I have recently puchased Phantom and I can say for playing him for a few hours he is slightly over powered.

A few things i can point out is that he has way too much health for a stealthy character and so that should be lowered maybe to 90 or at the maximum 100. How he has an SMG is slightly unfair especially with the cloak maybe make the Loadouts have less powerful SMG’s or just a fairly powerful pistol which could fix a few of the problems which people are complaining about. The Armor although very powerful should be nerfed aswell so that he cannot suvive an airstrike however I do like how he can survive Grenades as Nader is very powerful when she has a full Grenade Launcher.

A few things people are mis-interpreting is the Katana, I do believe it is an excellent weapon and fits the Mercs playstyle, however multiple people have complained that it is ‘Too powerful’. In my opinion I believe this is wrong as the swing time is a lot longer than those of a less powerful melee weapon. It can only 1 hit 3 Mercs I believe these being:

  • Aura
  • Kira
  • Sparks
All these having health below 100.

Thank you for reading my opinion about Phantom. I have played him and have had experience with him. I must also add that he is a very difficult character to master and so this does provide another disadvantage to the Merc as a whole.

You forgot Proxy, other than that I sort of agree. But if those changes were implemented it would need to have a near invisible cloak to make it a true stealth character.

Is this a stealth character or a melee one, not sure if I even know anymore.

The stealth and shield seem to be added in order to make it easier to melee rather than to sneak past enemies. Probably the whole reason for a katana.

With Chopper, he also kills Vasilli in one hit, so 5 mercs out of . . . 14 currently in the game? On top of that, the katana can hit multiple targets very easily, and has very generous range. Phantom doesn’t have to be very close at all to do it, and it does appear very forgiving ( just hit RMB and wave the camera about ).

(Reddeadcap) #8

@GregHouseMD it has been confirmed that being able to move around with the RMB attack wasn’t intended, it’ll be sorted out sooner or later as for people saying tue refractive armor is too much, because he is invisible and can take a lot of damage, he is one when still and the other when moving which also drains faster without taking damage.

Imho he needs his SMGs replaced with machine pistols and given a katana in each loadout, hopefully when the RMB attack is fixed, as it is pretty much his signature item and more of an ability than a weapon.

like in all games the new character is broken. MAIN reason people don’t know how to counter a phantoms play style. Giving him side arm pistol would make him more focused on just stabbing people. But have you noticed that all of the mercs have 2 ways or more play styles based on load outs. By taking away his smg and replacing it with a sidearm machine pistol of some sort, phantom becomes 1 dimensional and his only role is to stab people. He becomes useless in the objective firefight which usually happens if you have 2 coordinated teams fighting. Only way i could agree with some of these post on phantom is that his strikes can one shot anyone on the team if its a back stab, frontstabs stay the same and his invis is better(more like the tf2 spy) and 25% damage reduction instead of a full 100% with the stealth shield.
