Phantom cards with only Katana

(Despaniard) #1

Should Phantom loadout cards keep a chance of giving you a Katana or a knife? Or should they just give you a Katana for sure?

(sonsofaugust5) #2

Honestly, I was playing phantom the other day and he is just awful. His katana swing is slow and he himself is not a fast enough character to evade well. Kira or proxy or aura are a lot better if you are looking to melee people down. They are small and fast making them hard to hit if you can jump around.

I was using his katana load out with chopper and the upgraded cloak. Even if you right click a low hp mercenary there is always another mercenary behind him so you have to try and pull a gun out and out shoot the next player.

You learn to quickly help the swipe by moving mouse, and you use cloak to get close and stab the @#!@ out of anything the moves in a close area.

And what’s exactly wrong with it? You don’t forced to use melee only, you know. My good friend who main spy in TF2 play as a Phantom quite often, and I found fights with him extremely annoying and unpredictable, despite his low-ish level, because he already know 3 things:
–He know when to pull a gun and when to pull a knife katana
–He know what cloak can do and what it can’t
–He know how to position himself to have advantage

I agree, but how useful is a character that can fight 1 guy? Yeah you can pull out a gun. The best bet is finding 1 mercenary who is alone and facing them or running around a team and hoping they dont see you flanking and killing them. On a team, he is a bad assault mercenary. He doesnt provide ammo, heals, repairs, or crowd control. I think he is the most underused Comp merc.

I think it would be nice if he got a speed buff. I think the main strategy of playing him would be flanking and stopping enemies planting or defusing while defenders do not see the mercenary.

Go as Amerika about this. @Amerika

Idc really but… yeah… SD and Nexon is doing this shit just for the money and shit… obviously.
Make only couple loadouts that are desirable so that people would go out their way to get them.
Of course, people who don’t spend money on cases aren’t really playing into the hands of SD and Nexon but those who are actively buying elite cases, are playing into their hands.

As I’ve said in other threads the issue is not that there are Katana less loadout cards, the issue is that they are HORRIBLY underpowered compared to the others. If you look at those cards can you honestly say you’d use them even with said Katana? Hell no, you’d rather use something else.

(SpectraBlitz) #11

To quote an oft under used and rarely played merc: “The ‘I care’ store called and apologised for their mistake, and offered a full refund. Because I. don’t. care. That is.”

In all seriousness, i don’t think that any merc should have any weapon specifically tied to them/avaliable across all loadouts, simply because it would lack diversity in loadouts.
If it were to be classed as an ability similar to the minigun/lactic, rhen yeah, I would advocate that.

It’d be better if the knives didn’t break cloak or he also had a cricket bat. As it stands, unless the enemy is lonewolfing, the most you can get is 1:2 but more likely much lesser since the sound of the armor and the just jumping the fuck away will save you most of the time.

(SirMurder) #13

SD just wants moar RNG thats why people run around with C62 tornado operatives with stilleto and such

(SirMurder) #14

Wait did i actually necro this thread now?
Didnt notice date…

(SpinnerzNQ) #15

I’m usually fine with Phantom with a knife (as long as it doesn’t have the Blishlok), but I just wish they would have better augments because the cards are kinda trashballs. More cards with Undercover and Chopper and less with poop!

(Despaniard) #16

Thank you all for the feedback. Yes @SirMurder , you did just Necro this thread but that’s fine. This poll is closed and the information and opinions will head out to the higherups

I am not going to say how DB’s decision on nerfing the hell out of Phantom is plain dumb since someone else already did that. I am just going to say this about the melee weapons. Though I think Katana is a great thing I do not think it should be the only melee weapon for phantom.

  1. People do not realize how fun Phantom can be when he is fast … yeah … Did you know you move so much faster with a knife on Phantom so you feel like you are playing an assassin and not some fat guy trying to be ninja but is too slow to do so? No, I bet you dump all the cards with no katana on it and refuse to pull a gun when you realize you can never chase a back pedaling Proxy etc
  2. Katana is unique to Phantom sure but so are so many other weapons for other mercs. They did not have loadouts only with that weapon. What of other players who want knife experience?

(Naonna) #19

Katana is not unique to phantom: it’s a melee like any other in the game: in his case just replacing the bat. Other mercs will have access to it in the future. For more, ask the mods.

(YeOldeButtcheek) #20

Let’s make a merc that mostly uses melee!
*gives loadouts with Stilettos
