Phantom abilities | What should they change? /My thoughts/

Hi fellas,
First of all, i want to say that phantom is very different and too assassin for a shooter, well… What happens if we make him MORE ASSASSIN?

Here are my thoughts on what they should change on his skills.

Refractive Armor;
Now doesnt absorb damage, but you are a lot less visible.

[NEW ABILITY] Katana Protection;
Phantom uses his katana to destroy bullets coming to him from the front. Lasts 3 seconds, cant use katana while using this ability.

[NEW] Katana health: Now your katana has a health, every time you destroy a bullet with katana protection, your katana gets damaged. When it’s hp reaches 0 it gets destroyed 4 seconds later, you have to wait 7 more seconds to use the katana again.

Base health decreased to 100

Move speed increased to 430

Wrong section btw, it should be in Merc Discussions

That would ruin him even more.
Not all Phantoms have Katanas, there are loadout cards with the Cricket Bat and in 1st gen knives too.
Giving his melee health would suck because losing your weapon makes you defenseless.
The bullet blocking is not really gonna help improving him.

What he really needs is extra speed, being a lot less visible and less noisy and finally make him a true recon (spotting ability)

Apparently phantom’s main purpose still is comic relieve. Maybe SD should improve that aspect?

The could add an ability to trip over his own feed and fall flat on his face in a funny looking way, which makes nearby enemy mercs laugh hysterically and unable to use their guns for a few seconds.

Or they could add a fart ability where he omits a funny sounding toxic fart cloud which makes other mercs cough and unable to use their gun for a few seconds.

Or they could add a banana throwing ability. Mercs running over the banana will slip, making a funny sound (think Benny Hill) and be incapacitated for a few seconds.

Accompany that with canned laughter from bad TV shows and I think we have a winner.

Oh the possibilities…

Phantom is un-fixable. No matter what they do, it’ll never be enough.
They fixed Thunder by that time. But Phantom… well, no reason to play him over Kiratana, in terms of overall usefulness. The EMP is a nice add on, but still too gimmicky.

His iconic weapon is overshadowed by cricket or knives, like Rhino’s minigun overshadowed by shotgun.

I want him to be more stealth, and melee-oriented. Apparently SD does not want it and it never gonna happen. I gave up Phantom. His EMP is a gimmick, nothing more.
“Hey my damn station isn’t working” - All enemies turn around and shoot you in the face. And you can’t even tank them anymore.
To OP. The protection thing is a ripoff from Genji in Overwatch. Please no.
He is still a 1v1-pickup-unaware-pubnoobs mercenary. But he should be more.

I still want the assault Phantom back. His refractive armor made him good at 1v1’s and flanking, I’m so angry that raised the cooldown on it and gave him a cheesy EMP affect. It’s like the devs just threw an idea in there without thinking…

If they really want an EMP effect then make it do something that supports the team in a more offensive way like disabling enemy mercs abilities.

I for one am not a fan of melee orientation. Doesnt fit DB’s grill, as the more advanced gameplay goes the more will fighting will move to mid- and longrange, melee serving mostly as finishing tool and maybe a rare in-yo-face moment desperation swing every now and then. So good if Phantom would be moved away from that sillyness.

EMP feels a good saboteur tool for him, however it is indeed somewhat wrongly done. I dont have opinion how to change it, but something more precise, longer range and maybe at-will type of approach might be the best.

but now all serious, think phantom inst in that bad place, he is great counter to aura, fletcher and proxy, cards got buffed too! (sadly no sneaky in new cards :c) dont try to make soo bad, because he isnt

we already heard the generator sound, why not add this?

If phantom could hack deployables like bush turret or proxy mines that’d be cool.

Or if he could place fake c4s to confuse the opposing team on diffuse.

But id like to see his stealth less visible, no loud stupid whistle and not penalized by how fast he moves more then anything.

He needs speed, better stealth, less emp, more spotting, and a heavy melee attack that doesn’t lock you for an hour.

how to make phontom good make him 90-100 make him LESS visible and noisy and make his emp a grenade so he can desactivate deployable and run away
