Petition to give Kira the Katana
SD already stated that they wont give the mercs any different weapons than they already have
btw its no katana, its a ninjato
YES
Perhaps they could adjust the stats a bit to grant more speed than the Beckhill, but less than the Stiletto. A bit more reach than the Beckhill, but less damage.
I’d still be just perfectly happy with a simple reskin though.
na man, there is no way aimee is getting the katana thats totally dumb.
Shes getting a kitchen knife.
lol, jk about it being dumb btw, it would be cool.
Aimée will be getting a French feudal war 'ammeur.

Either that or a frying pan coated with goose grease for extra speed, or a broken wine bottle.
They used whatever was at hand, which was mostly farm equipment. Most of the time they didn’t really need to use anything, they were intelligence opperatives more than assassins.
I think it’s called a katana ingame. Ninjato is a Hollywood invention, the result of using cheap props (straight blades are easier to make for cheap props), it never actually existed. The closest thing to a Japanese straight sword would be a chokuto.
“ninjatos” actually existed in japan before 980, they were called chokuto and normally did not exceed the size of 60cm
there is no evidence that ninjas used them because the ones we know nowadays didnt exist in the heian period
watch as a surprise ninja kills us all to hide the true facts about ninjas XD
It’s not, most Ninjato made as actual Ninjato use a katana style tsuba (handguard) and koshirae (fittings). Original Heian and ealier period chokuto did not. Besides the whole concept and name of a Ninjato are modern, so referring to a chokuto as such would still be incorrect even if they were constructionally similar.
its still a ninjato, even if these are a modern invention of hollywood
the ingame weapon names are different from most real weapons, naming it a katana does not mean it is one
from a visual standpoint, a ninjato is a chukoto with a tsuba and those fittings
That like saying a Charleville Modèle 1777 corrigé en l’an IX musket can be properly described as a “pewpew” because it matches the description of a “pewpew”.
A ninjato is NOT any kind of chokuto, or the other way around. There’s more to a blade than visual appearance, there’re things like prescribed average length, blade geometry, balance, construction, weight, type of steel, forging techniques. A chokuto and the ninjato concept have literally nothing in common, except for that they’re both straight single edged blades. The fact that the definition of a ninjato is so loose, precisely because it is a modern misconcepted invention, changes nothing about that. A ninjato isn’t even Japanese! Some Scottisch basket hilted broadswords are single edged straight swords, that does not make them ninjato’s.
Following your line of reasoning, a horse is a donkey, a massage roller is a car, and a pen is an iron girder.
its a visual standpoint, visually identical does not mean its the same, it means it looks like its the same
i dont know the original source anymore but ive found some old report on one of my external hard disks and copied the relevant paragraph. its from a historican that specialised in historical blades;
-the word katana is just the general term for sword/knife, while the ninjato is specific to the blades used by ninja. The difference usually lies in the squared guard (tsuba) in the ninja-to, and that a ninjato is straight(er). Back in the day, the ninjato was just a shorter blade in a longer sheath, used like that to fool enemies into thinking it might take more time to draw the sword. The tou in ninjato is another pronunciation for the katana character, and is often used as a suffix when reffering to japanese swords…-
ninjato is a real definition, a “pewpew” is not
a horse is no donkey and a pen is no iron grider but if you think they look the same you should really get some glasses

You might want to look up the original source then, because that there is complete and utter bollocks.
Not everyone claiming to be a historian, actually knows what he’s talking about. This guy made a career on TV as a historian, with a BA in “Sports Information”:
That’s about the level your source is at.
its an old report, written in 2003
i stumbled upon it when i looked up some information to make me my own ninjato
i can only tell you what i read up myself, most of it from books about swords and some from the internet but still, its a ninjato, no katana
That’s,… not old, not at all.
Seriously, I can not emphasize this enough, don’t go by what is said on the internet or in popular books about swords.
i had one last thought about the sword and took a closer look on the actual ingame design
the argument it could be a katana is so invalid, it was nearly blown into oblivion
there are at least 2 general aspects that restrict it from being one and the actual use in modern combat would be impossible
if we take the ingame name as a hint there are only 3 options left;
1.) its a hightech ninjato without a tsuba
2.) its a hightech chokuto without a tsuba
3.) its a completely new type of sword without any real reference to historical weapons

3., definitely 3., so really you can call it whatever. Personally I’d prefer “sharpie death stick”.
Not at all, I agree. However, the crusade against misconceptions about Japanese swords and Ninja’s shall be forever ongoing.

Well, Cowboy’s didn’t actually wear Cowboy hats either. Hollywood and media in general has altered what was real in history to the point that most people don’t really care.
True, and I’m fine with people not caring. I’m just not fine with being “corrected” to Hollywood standards.
