Persistent game freezes

For about 2 months now, Dirty Bomb has had random 5-8 second freezes roughly every 10-15 min in game… I’ve tried a lot of things to fix it, I noticed that the game weighs a lot on the CPU (and was causing heat issues) so I figured that could be the cause, I messed with the config files to disable texture streaming and increased texture pool size to 1024 (which if I understand correctly should use more VRAM to load textures), but it still uses 95%+ of my CPU power while GPU rarely even goes past 65%. I then thought the heat issues when playing DB were the cause, so I cleaned the dust from my computer and bought a new CPU cooler, but even staying at stable temperatures I still get freezes. Any further ideas? My PC specs are:

GTX 760
i5 4690
8gb ram
Running on Windows 7.

The base config I used was this, made by 2iko. With all those changes I had the game running really smooth at high FPS without looking potatoish… except the dumb freezes still torment me.

Freezes had magically stopped for a couple of weeks… and after this hotfix they came back, slightly shorter and they don’t make Shadowplay stop working anymore. Still awful though

I have the same card and probelms too. After about 2 or 3 games I get 5 fps. But before that the game is running really smooth. Does that sound similar to your issue?

Do you mean like an FPS drop? No, my game runs at a constant high FPS (150+), instead of suddenly having really low FPS counts I just freeze for a few seconds. Also I just upgraded to a GTX 1060 and the freezes still happen, FML…

Ok, one test, can you listen out for a Skyhammer airstrike and see if you hear that just as it freezes?

The other cause could be malware or updateware… For malware run a scan with adwcleaner… Then for the updateware install “autoruns” from microsoft website, then uncheck anything you dont recognise in startup tab. Keep mouse software and graphics stuff, disable all the other crap. Then do services tab as well, disable Java updater, Adobe updater, anything that says “update service”. Then scheduled tasks tab, disable pretty much everything in there. That could solve it. Also disable windows update

remember to reboot after you uncheck those items

I’m malware free and reasonably bloat-free though I did go on to manually disable more stuff after your post… and no, I don’t have freezes with Skyhammer airstrikes specifically, but one curious thing to notice is that clicking the tabs in the endgame score screen can sometimes cause a freeze.

the fact it is every 10-15 mins makes me think its either software \ driver in the background, or somekind of system error. I would check the event log at the time of the freeze, see if you get any errors, like hdd failure and stuff like that. If it is hdd failure it can be a loose sata cable. I read somewhere it could also be a bad sound driver. Try updating all your gaming software \ drivers, for mouse, sound card and gfx. Try unplug USB’s that you dont use for gaming as a test too, incase you got some shitty hardware wired up :stuck_out_tongue: good luck man!!

I fixed my issue by unplugging the joystick. lol
