Perks, Unlockable, Abilities

(Jess Alon) #1

Can we get a list going as to what abilities and perks and unlockables and upgradables there are in game according to videos and previews so far?

I know there are…

Universal Abilities

Battle Hardened (1 credit)
Increases your life meter by one pip.
Combat Intuition (1 credit)
Allows you to sense if an unseen enemy has you in their sights.
Downed Fire (1 credit)
Lets you shoot at enemies even when incapacitated.
Sense of Perspective (1 credit)
Snaps your view to 3rd person perspective while you complete objectives, allowing you to watch your own back.
Silent Running (1 credit)

Soldier Abilities

Ammo Boxes
Flak Jackets?

Medic Abilities
Life Buff 1 (Over heal? Probably a 2 and 3 as well)
Self Rez

Engineer Abilities
Turrets 1-3
Weapon Buffs (Increase weapon damage self and teammates)
Landmines

Operative

Cortex Bomb (Self destruct)
Caltrops (Ninja spikes scattered to stop pursuers)
Firewall (Someone explain this one)

Get real specific about what you’ve seen. So people can tell their friends about all the cool stuff they will be able to do in Brink.

Well… We know there is ammo upgrades, as he said ‘‘Today Jolly’s handing out Armor Piercing’’, yeah?

(Jess Alon) #4

Ok I’ll compile those in the first post… there’s also an ability to shoot grenades right? And a reload while sprinting. Those aren’t in the wiki.

(Ajax's Spear) #5

Stuff isn’t usually added until the names of the abilities are confirmed.

(Jess Alon) #6

Yeah well there’s been youtube videos that have abilities right there where everyone can read the names. Even at PAX.

(Ajax's Spear) #7

Word. Go and add them to the wiki then. And if you aren’t sure how, go ahead and tell me the confirmed names of the abilities and I’ll add them.

Abilities also have rank levels, which work like a lvl requirement. You must be a certain rank before you can purchase abilities. There are 5 ranks:

R1: lvl 0-4
R2: lvl 5-9
R3: lvl 10-14
R4: lvl 15-19
R5: lvl 20

Ranks are used for matchmaking as well

These are the abilities I have heard of:

SOLDIER
Ammo Boxes - Resupply ammo to teammates
Ammo Upgrade - (Incendiary, Armor Piercing?)
Extra Grenades -
Molotovs -
Flashbangs -
Shield Teammate - Act as sort of a mobile turret, shielding teammates from damage while being able to shoot.

MEDIC
Life Buff 1 - Increase health of teammate by 1 pip.
Life Buff 2 -
Lazarus Grenade - An AOE resurrection grenade.
Fleet of Foot - Boost the sprint speed of a teammate.
Adrenaline - Grants a sort of temporary invulnerability on a teammate. All damage received will be felt after the effect wares off, so take too much and you can die.

ENGINEER
Standard Engineer Kit - – Engineers can complete Construction and Repair objectives and can boost their teammates’ weapon damage.
Nerves of Steel - disarm explosives faster
Turret -
Turret 2 -
Turret 3 -
Mines -
Extra Mines - increase your mine capacity
Kevlar Plates - hand out to teammates to boost their armor

OPERATIVE
Disguise – Take on the appearance of a downed enemy player.
Homing Beacon – Allows you to place a beacon on an enemy target so his movements may be tracked on the map.
Comms Hack – allows you to scan downed opponents to reveal enemy locations on the minimap for your team.
Sticky Bomb - Sticky Bomb lets you throw a powerful grenade which sticks to any enemy it touches and can only be removed by their teammates.
Cortex Bomb - A self destruct device that can be detonated when you are incapacitated.
Spike Jack - A smoke bomb/caltrops hybrid grenade.
Hack Turret - Hack an Engineer’s turret, and gain access to it in first person view.
EMP Grenade - grenade that will disable electronic devices, like turrets and will slow down the countdown on HE charges.
Firewall - Firewall a captured Command Post to make it harder for enemies to re-capture it.

UNIVERSAL

tnx, H0RSE[4 listing].
sounds fair/cool.
sadly isnt many side abilities introduced, just expanded feats/abilities, gain, curve, compared to ETQW.
&maybe its also be extended/improved at release time, who knows?

I love how complete the works of Horse are.

I wonder if Brink DLC will include cool new abilities.

Not wanting to ruin the surprise as to whether all these explanations are all true or not, this one in particular…

…after lots of playtesting - hit the cutting room floor so to speak, as it didn’t turn out to be quite as fun as we had all hoped.

P.S. H0RSE we missed you at PAX :frowning:

I was under the impression that the shield ability involved some sort of riot shield or something and was similar to the moving cover mechanic in army of two. Which sounded like a blast. You block for the guy behind you but you switch to your side arm while the guy behind you can blast away with his weapon.

that’s ok, couple people analizing from afar, ie: not there, no idea how demonstrations work

And this is why, despite complaints, we do our best to go with recent confirmations before we add anything major to the wiki. That isn’t meant to take anything away from HORSE, either.

(Jess Alon) #15

Yeah but developers confirm things and then take them out later all the time. Fable 2/3 anyone? You can’t get everything right.

(Ajax's Spear) #16

Exactly. That’s sort of my point.

(DouglasDanger) #17

You get one ability per level, right? So you must choose between class-based abilities and universal abilities. And I think Paul said somewhere that there around 50 or so of them. I hope they are well-balanced, so there is a lot of variety.

I wonder if each class has the same number of abilities to buy. Perhaps each class has nine. The Operative has nine. If each class has nine, that would nine abilities for four classes, which would make 36. Hm…

Is there an ability that you can get that prevents you from being weakened by Kryptonite?

Last I heard, Rahdo said they had 58 abilities total, which cannot be divided evenly into 5 (4 classes and universal)

(1234567) #20

Disregard the above. Husband was being stupid.
