Perhaps the shotguns are not buffed enough yet?

Lately we’ve seen 3 shotgun buffs with 3 different patches. But honestly, I don’t think shotguns are strong enough yet. What do you guys think?

Personally I think it can use more range? Also maybe reduce the bullet spread? Also perhaps we can give it a little more damage? Maybe 20-50% more damage. I don’t really know guys. I want everyone’s honest opinion on this because everytime I use a shotgun… I’m triggered.

It infuriates me how underpowered it feels.

Please splash damage. We need more shotgun buffs.

Shotguns need a range increase of about 200m so they’re more on par with sniper rifles. They’re already pretty close to being sniper rifles, but it’s just not enough, y’know?

Please, SD. I know I can headshot people with a shotgun from across the map, but I also want shotgun shells that detonate on impact and have 200m AoE damage.

I know Nexon had issues with balancing shotguns in Combat Arms, but I really think you guys are hitting the nail on the head here in Dirty Bomb for them! I love being able to snipe with a shotty. No one ever sees it coming when I’m running a hundred miles per hour with coked up merc. :blush: I feel almost like a pre-nerf Phantom! But it just needs more, you know?

Edited: Accidentally put 20m increases… I meant 200, obviously. 200m increase in range please!!

Honestly @Eox had a good idea to seperate the damage per pellet, the center pellet would do the most damage, while the pellets on the outer rim would do the least.

I just don’t know how they’d code that to be honest. :\

Simple and smart : just make it so the pellet at the center is actually two pellets merged. :stuck_out_tongue:

Shotguns in UE3 can’t get a separate damage value between them as far as I heard, but I guess nothing prevent us from stacking two pellets at the same point.

That looks pretty balanced to me. It takes like 5 shots to kill a Stoker at that somewhat short range… If anything, they need a buff again.

I haven’t used them recently though so I don’t know if the recent buff has helped any. However, previously, it was almost pointless to use a shotgun. The damage was entirely random. Too often I would barrel stuff a mid-HP merc (like around 100) and the shotgun would only do “25%” damage to them, or in some cases, close to nothing. I found myself as an Aura, reverting to my M9 to get any kills. The shotguns just feel extremely weak at pointblank range when they should do high damage.

I’m guessing you were being sarcastic when you said “shotguns are completely worthless and unusable,” but by the looks of the video, they are fairly unusable. Granted, you were also playing against not-the-best people… Shotguns should definitely be capable of taking out 2 people before you need to reload. Parts of the clip even show that at almost pointblank range it can take 3-4 shots to kill a merc. That’s just too much in my opinion.

I say lower the rate of fire, and increase the damage. That way it requires you to hit your targets because if you don’t, there’s a good chance you’ll die. :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course I’m being sarcastic and I hope you are too. The first kill I got looks normal to you? Shotguns should have absolutely 0 effect or close to 0 from that range. I was taking off close to 20-25 chunks of hp cleanly. That’s insane. Aura/Proxy has the speed to get close n personal, let them do it.

Tell me where. Cause all I see is me downing people with 2 shots or less from close/medium range.

The first kill, definitely not. The second kill, yes. It took 5 shots to kill I believe at medium range ish. You also scored a headshot with it.

The next few kills appear to be fairly balanced, like the phoenix taking 2 shots to kill at close range. Then after that, most of the kills seem right to me. The Rhino at a decent range was taking damage from the turret so that’s why he died so quickly I think. You finished a few mercs off that had already taken damage.

2 shots to kill is perfect at those close ranges. The medium range shots were against mercs that had already taken a decent amount of damage, but that first kill was definitely a bit much. Shotguns feel somewhat random sometimes. Or at least they did. They appeared to make some changes which makes them feel more consistent in my opinion. Granted, I’ve encountered some people using Aura as a sniper and I feel like there should be a bit more of a damage drop off past a certain point.

I don’t think SD have buffed their specialist situational weapons enough yet to compete with automatics. They need to be in line with their all round brethren to be truly situational you see.

I am not gonna open a separate thread therefore I post my feedback here.

The latest patch messed up shotguns pretty bad. Why on earth would they buff their distance and at the same time nerf the buckshot spread??? This is srsly beyond me.

My most favorite mercs are proxy, aura and fletcher which means I play with shotguns a lot.

Talking specifically about Hollunds. I am firing 2-3 shots point blank and the result is… I do very little damage, because its all a miss due to very narrow buckshot spread…that is not how shotguns should work imho.

They need to have a huge damage drop off for medium and long range combat. But for short range engagement they need to blast people out of the server.

I hereby beg you Splash Damage, please reverse this change and put shotguns where they were before the last patch.

Cmon, you can do this, you did it with the burst rifles, you can do it even naow. I really do hope somebody competent reads these forums.
