Performance Problems with the DLC?

(burawura) #1

Played yesterday prior to downloading the DLC. Used AMD 11.7 drivers on HD 5850. Got 80+ fps on sectow, played a whole botmatch as fps test. Stable and playable.

Today, after downloading the DLC, I fire up founder’s tower. Same drivers, same config; no bots, just myself. 35-50 fps, bouncing up and down. I load up sectow, 25-35 fps, unplayable.

Anyone else had issues with terrible performance post-DLC?

This is a really bad joke, right? How can this be possible?

offline = 30fps cap

I use these settings I can play with textures settings on high

seta image_filter "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST" // changes texture filtering on mipmapped images (GL_NEAREST = ugliest & fastest)
seta r_normalizeNormalMaps "1" // Normalize normalmaps after lookup.
seta r_shadows "0" // enable/disable shadows. large performance boost with shadows disabled
seta r_shadowsHighQuality "0" // enable high-quality shadows
seta r_skipAtmosInteractions "1" // skip all light/surface interaction drawing
seta r_skipPrePass "1" // skip pre-pass (and all the effects that depends on it, such as depth of field)
seta r_softParticles "0" // enable soft particles
seta r_swapInterval "0" // vertical sync -- lock fps to r_displayrefresh. 0=disabled, 1=enabled
seta r_useAntiAliasing "0" // use FXAA Anti-aliasing
seta r_useHighQualityPostProcess "0" // enable high-quality post-processing
seta r_useMotionBlur "0" // use motion blur

I am aware of the 30fps cap for listen servers. The games I tested on were private coop games on dedi server = no cap. The game is running like ****. If you had actually read my post you would’ve noticed I played a botmatch yesterday at 80fps, the cap is not the issue.

Was gonna reply with something helpful for you burawura, but [Deleted] nevermind.

Awesome, dude. Thanks. [Deleted] Really constructive.

Since the guy’s answer isn’t an answer to my question, and is in fact just general video tweaking tips, I correctly concluded he didn’t read my post. I was simply informing him that his post is not addressing the topic. Cool down.

burawura, can you please post a DxDiag so you can rule out a couple of possibilities.

(burawura) #7

I am not looking for tech help; I am trying to see whether other users are experiencing the same problems I am.

(burawura) #8

Booted up the game again today and everything is running fine; I have no idea why performance was so terrible yesterday as literally nothing has changed on my end. Anyways, this thread is pointless now.

If you have a CPU closer to the min spec and you were also running CPU-heavy applications in the background that would explain the discrepancy. Of course I haven’t seen your DxDiag so I don’t know how accurate that hypothesis is.

I have to concur with your first post bura! The game felt like syrup with loads of lumps in it after downloading the DLC yesterday with no changes in my setup or programload in the background from before the DLC.

Tried rebooting, offline matches, online matches: No change whatsoever! I have not tried today though.
