Performance issues with Intel cpu's ?

(Freedom[]Tickler) #21

the setting can go by many names

there shld be an entry in BIOS that tells you your CPU speed, if its set to auto then it shld detect proper FSB as well. I have no idea how your bios is layed out, so Id be guessing if I told you what to look for

if you can tell me the make and model of your mobo, i can look it up and tell you what to look for.

ok in the first page it has my sys details an when it comes to BUS speed it says 400mhz, this section is grayed out an cannot change any of it, its not on auto detect i dont think as it says 400mhz.

My intelk chipset is D845EBG2 the documentation doesnt cover this thing.

Id really appreciate it if you took a look anyway.

Are you 100% sure that the p4 2.60ghz models are only 533mhz BUS?

(n00ber) #23

I saw a P4 2.4 w/ a 800mhz fsb… :eek3: It had “Hyper threading technology”, whatever that is…

(dfusion) #24

what i meant is you sure they dont make 400mhz bus models too?

(name) #25

yes intel made 2.6ghz 400fsb p4’s

they’re still on sale too

P4 2.6ghz 400mhz FSB:

I just feel really… sad, that my $30 video-card in what is a roughly $600 rig (over half of it the motherboard and power supply) is blowing away these leading-edge systems in this game, getting 50-60fps easilly on a Kyro2. =O.o=

64MB Kyro2 in a dual-AthlonMP1600 (1.4Ghz) running 512MB of PC2100 DDR memory. Hardly stellar, but it proves something. CPU don’t mean jack shit for the most part, with these low frame-rates your guys are reporting. Either you’re reporting the wrong frame-rate, or your video card and/or its drivers aren’t working right with ET.

([=O=]SMYLER) #28

I keep saying it as I used to have a 64MB Kyro 2, those things and their tile based architecture (it doesn’t calculate things you can’t see so it has less work to do) are incredibly good.

There you have it. The old reviews I read stated that it would be last of the 400 fsb at 2.4 - I took them at face value.

If its greyedout, it means its on auto detect, its when its set to manual that you change that field. most p4 boards allow it for FSB overclocking, seeing as p4s are multiplier locked. intel made your board, and they never include options for overclocking or alot of tweaking options. theyre great boards, just not marketed towards ‘enthusiasts’

the kyro II was a decent card, but seeing as there is no timedemo for ET that I can find - Id take wolfwings assertions w/ a grain of salt.

and anyone elses for that matter, its possible that your clan mates arent giving you their worst case FPS.

and saying CPU doesn matter for wolf is flat out incorrect, esp coming from someone w/ a dually and a way old grfx card : ) gee, what explains your frames …

OH YA -intel built clock throttling into their cpus that slows them down when they overheat - was abit of a controversy at the time, but its a smart feature. better slow than dead, it is possible this is occurring. there have been quite a few threads of people having lock ups that turned out to be heat related -

to be honest, im not sure if your FPS is on par w/ your system or not - its close to mine FPS wise as you describe it, so Im assuming it is

GF2Pro/32MB, but although it’s fine for RtCW it’s not good enough for ET (20-50 FPS @ 640*480). :frowning:
I have a better computer though, but the fan on the 9600Pro is keeping my neighbours awake (bad bearing, will hopefully get it exchanged tomorrow).

/me runs off to dwell on towers.

(Freedom[]Tickler) #31

your neighbors live that close to the tower that they can hear your grfx card fan : ) goddamn sprawl

thought of 2 last possibilities -

1- if youre using onboard sound, its doing the work in SW, as in CPU intensive, try as a test disabling it in bios and seeing what diff it makes

2- if you have 2 sticks of ram in, try removing 1 of them. alot of DDR boards used to slow down when 2 slots were populated, try that as a test.

im scraping the barrel here …
