Dark Dementia is (going to be) a game set in the 31st century about a war between humans and another race of aliens. It’s going too surround the life of an engineer on a destroyer that’s trying to reach alien authorities to end the war but a third unknown race interveins. It’s going to be a futuristic setting but maintain realistic fast-paced gameplay. (Think RTCW, but in space)

I’m not too sure what to say, if you have questions, ask, and I’ll answer them. What I’m asking for are the following:

  • Level designers
  • Texture artists (Needed quite alot)
  • 3D modelers

I’m quite busy at this second, which is why this post is brief, but I will answer any questions you have and I’d be extremely grateful to anyone who can help in any way.

I should say, work has already started, programming is well underway, level design is going well, quite funky, this is basically asking for more people to make development faster. If you’ll be able to help in anyway way say so, and I’ll PM you all the info you need.

i see you have said that your description is brief but realy a little bit more detail would not hurt at all. Your description could realy describe any number of games and gameplay styles.

im a little interested in hearing about any gameplay mechanics your have in mind or are making. If your game is like rtcw then why would i want to play it when i could spend the same time playing wolf that im gessing would be higher quilty since a profesional team worked full time to make that game. Some details here would be nice

Another questions is why you are using enemy territory and a platform for your mod (im asuming this since you posted in this section of the forum). ET has a hell of a lot of things missing that a single player game could realy use and re implementing these things will just take more time that is you say started with a game that already had working AI etc… there are also a few things that are remeoved like volumentric fog since it doesnt come into the ET multiplayer maps but i cant remeber the last single player adventure i had when fog dint come into it somewhere

on the same sorta subject why developing on such and old engine when newer and more powerfull ones are easily avaidable like quake4 for good graphics or hl2 for the physics and both have a much nicer render. OR even the q3 engine is open source now so that would seem an idea

adn finaly what do you think to the actual use of all this work when its done. A profesional single player adventure still has little replay value and some of them are realy good like rtcw. By the time you have fihsed development if your working on ET as a base game you might find that your game is seriosuly outdated technolicaly with all the advances in game technology your game could be alienate player simply because it look too much like an old game

It’s actually based on a modified Quake engine (http://entar.quakedev.com), I was told there were people here who can do such things. But it’s not outdated as you might think. The engine coder has changed so much, playing it without quake maps/models you wouldn’t realise it WAS quake. Trust me, the new engine isn’t outdated.

Next thing, this is going to be more of a stand-alone game, that everybody, regardless of what game they have, can play.

This won’t be simply a SP game, there’ll be a co-op mode, so you can play through it with other people online. Many people seem to like co-op.

So, in other words, Halo?

Futuristic setting, alien race, one lone human going to save it all, another race comes in (Forerunners).

Also, if your creating a new game why post in the ET section? Either:

  1. This game is just a fun project of yours which you want other people to do a lot of.
  2. Your trying to start up a company and get a game cranked out but don’t have any interest to date and am looking for som here.
  3. Your young, under 20, and have a ‘great idea’ you want done.

You don’t get originality points, or even points for good grammar. The difference between me and the average Joe with a ‘great idea’ is I’ve got experience in game development, a few years of it actually, and after being on other teams that, due to the leader, have fell through, I’ve took it into my own hands to gather people and keep a project going all the way. This project is about experience, for everybody who wants to do game development either for a career or as a hobby.

Lastly, the Halo thing, the game is of the same genre as Halo, that doesn’t make it Halo. I’ve not even played it! Halo was about a big ring that some race considered a religious object, and was used for evil purposes so a superhumanmodifiedcyberneticlyenhanced dude came and blew it up… absolutely nothing like this.

Website is here: www.13cliff.co.uk , storyline is on About page, and It’s Quake 3 based now. And I’ve got a good coder and good modeler so they’re not as vital anymore. Feel free to neg that.

Oxy?
your site link is dead it seems:shock:

not anymore ET maps?

(kamikazee) #7

The link is just wrong, that’s all. Try http://www.13cliff.co.uk/ (Just the last comma was removed.)

Thanks for pointing it out, I guess.
