Penalty for leaving the game mid-match

I’m loving the game so far, really fun, competitive, and twitchy. During a some of my games I’ve seen people leave and not come back, it could have been because their team was losing(most of the time it was this). I’ve personally haven’t had any problem with the game, crash/performance wise except the occasional server lag and character stutter.

So I wanted to ask; are we gonna have a small penalty for the players who leave matches? If I’m on the winning team I don’t care as much but for balance and conscience wise I feel it needs a little look at. Keyword only penalize people who intentionally disconnect for specific reasons ie losing team.

Or their game could have completely crashed entirely, as you wouldn’t likely see them by the time they got their game up and running again (as has already happened to me). ‘Intentional’ implies that you or a machine is somehow aware of a possible motivation behind leaving mid-match, when it could in fact be for any number of reasons.

Beyond ranked play, it doesn’t seem like there is a good reason for someone to intentionally leave a match anyway unless people start demanding X K/D ratio to join their uber leet clans or whatever.
