PDP-70 Opinions

I’ll keep it brief: I have a love/hate relationship with Dirty Bomb’s semi-auto sniper/PSG-1.

It’s great if you can keep your shots on target but the recoil ultimately allows that split-second slip-up where the target thinks “Crap, auto sniper, gotta move”. Usually after my first shot on someone ADSing or not strafing they’ll quickly hop to cover before my scope can stabilize. This is especially insulting where it takes anywhere from 2-3 shots to kill anyone with 80-100 HP and 6-7 for someone like Fragger or Rhino. It would also seem that sometimes the headshots on those two players do not insta-gib which is incredibly unfair seeing as how sniping in video games is hard, hitting targets 3x faster than any other FPS is harder.

Anyway, does anyone else have similar experiences? My setup is garbage so framerate, mouse placement, and internet speeds could be an issue, but I know when I hit my shots.

You ever played against a PDP sniper?

Not fun at all. In the slightest. 40 damage bullets from any range is just straight up annoying, and especially with that fire rate.

I got a nice silver PDP card for Vassili, so I tried it out. Had never used the gun before, hated it immediately. Not being able to deal lethal damage immediately, a lot of players just strafe-danced away from me after the first shot. Granted, I only used it once (and not even for an entire game) before trading it up for a gold Sparks card. I kind of regret, I feel like I should’ve given it a second try.

When I see someone using it, I know I can usually bob and weave through their line of sight without getting killed. If they’re good, they can get consistent body shots and maybe a headshot or two, but I generally don’t see it as a bigger threat in pubs.

If you have solid tracking the PDP is just ridiculous. I always feel like such a scumbag when I use it. Especially when on Vassili since you can combine it with an MP400 where you’re stuck with a pistol on Redeye. You can be incredibly mobile and aggressive with it which is what a lot of people simply don’t do for some reason.

I’ve long considered the PDP one of the most underrated weapons in the game. It is used in DBN Cups pretty often by a few players to great effect.

This is from awhile back when the PDP would still gib on headshot and it had fewer bullets in the mag but I consider it just as strong now.

I feel like it needs a lower RoF, hell I’d even daresay it should 1 shot headshot 100 hp mercs, but the fire rate would have to be lowered for that to be fair imo. I’d think anything slower than 180 rpm, but higher than 120 would be the ideal sweet spot.

I have, most can’t hit me because it’s so easy to strafe away. Works both ways.

This is the problem basically. Lack of headshot gibs is frustrating.

We think alike. I was thinking 140-150 RoF and 45HP damage.

I think it’s underpowered. I don’t play as sniper dudes frequently, but most of the time when I see enemy Vassili with this one, I feel like enemy team have one player less than our.

Also it’s not PSG-1, it’s HK MSG90 kthxbai

Someone’s got a good eye, I’m surprised you recognized the specific model variant. Most of the kids on the internet recognize the PSG1A1 model so I referred to it as such.

If you ask me, I’m on the same boat as Amerika. PDP-70 is quite underrated. I have used it myself on both RedEye and Vassili and I have also seen it in action by other gameplay footage. Good tracking with it makes it really powerful and I consider that the removal of the instagib on bolt-action rifles has made the PDP-70 more viable again in comparison.

Hell I’d take the PDP over the Grandeur on RedEye anyday, and Spotter+Focus on Vassili with Mp400 as my secondary? Hell yes!

It’s become my go-to for Redeye. Thing’s a god damned monster if you can track and manage the recoil. Pop a headshot on 90 or less and it’s over for them.
Which is hilarious. I swear last time the enemy Kira was about to jump through the damn screen to get at me. Every single time she popped her head out, “PAP”.

Haha, I was gonna say the same thing. Definitely the MSG. I remember it from playing AVA I believe (could be wrong, it might have been a different game).

I love semi-auto sniper rifles because not only are they extremely effective at all ranges, when used correctly, and for holding off entire teams, but they also piss people off. That’s what I love doing.

I’ve always used the semi-auto snipers in games like AVA, Battlefield, etc. It’s not like using a bolt-action where if you miss that one shot, you’re dead. Or if more than one person is heading your way, you’re dead. I do wish it could instagib more with headshots though as I always find someone I just killed to be revived quickly (on maps like Market, near the Dank Market where you can’t see the people up top when they go down.

i remember when i had this card with pdp and mp400 in bamboo but i used it to craft cobalt vasili… felix and tølen mp

(Snuffles) #14

My man. I use DMRs of sorts in ARMA and Battlefield simply because I enjoy range, but not long-range. If someone comes at you close and you have some bulky .50 cal, it’s over. M14s, SKS’, FALs, those will still get you through a building.

I tried using a PDP and I just couldn’t stand the recoil, was hitting everything around them but them. ( - ^ - ) I do agree they really discourage players from entering areas.
