First of all all 3 platforms are simultaneously being developed/tweaked… There is no porting to any system.
…and 60 FPS is crap? I’m just wondering if you have the new improved Mark II eyeball that allows you to see/appreciate higher FPS for more than just bragging rights?
Once you go 120hz/120fps, you never go back! (ok that doesn’t rhyme, but still…). Yes 60fps is plenty, but trust me, there is a HUGE difference when you make to leap to 120hz/120fps. It’s just far more fluid and smoother. I have a 26" Samsung 60hz monitor, and 22" 120hz and I much prefer playing games on the smaller monitor because it’s so smooth and no ghosting (playing ETQW last night on Ultra with full AA+AF at 120fps was awesome).
Saying that, I prefer my games to look good. I gave up the Super Mario look when I stopped playing RtCW and W:ET competitively many many moons ago, so i’d rather sacrifice a few frames to have it look nice.
These are my personal hopes for PC Brink that will give ME the most enjoyment.
Movement
I want the learning curve of the movement system to be quite high, the shelf life of Quake 3/Live, RtCW and W:ET were more or less tripled for me as I spent a large chunk of my time tricking on those games (defrag for Q3 especially). It opens up new doorways of game play style beyond run and gun, and it was just plain fun getting to places on the map that people couldn’t get to… or on some occasions… where the mapper didn’t intend for you to get to. It was a like an unintentional new game mode for me… but only existed due to the steep learning curve the movement in those games brought.
Movie Making Capabilities
Again another large chunk of my time was taken up with messing around with movie making, I wrote many configs and guides for RtCW, W:ET and ETQW, this was also helped by the diversity of the demos and the flexibility they gave. ETQW was a major step backwards with regards to this, so I’m hoping quite a few improvements have been made here (and it doesn’t require a £500 piece of software to create a scripted camera
). ETQW was counter-productive, and more effort was spent on stuff that should be simple than there was spent on any actual editing… coupled with the engine limitations, it just wasn’t nice to work with.
Couple with the normal gameplay, if the 2 areas above are also adequately catered for than I’ll be kept busy for a long time to come with this game. In all honesty though, the movement area may satisfy me to a degree, but I’m not expecting the greatest of learning curves. As for demo/movie making support… I’m not gonna hold my breath!
