(PC) Server Browser Feature Request

(MagIKl4d2) #1

This pertains to the PC version of BRINK

It’s really annoying to have to click through a whole ton of servers only to be met with the annoying “your rank is too high to play on that server” message about 90% of the time. Please add something like a filter to only display servers that you CAN join with your current character, or at least something that shows what rank is being played on that server currently.

Agreed, a column for rank would be nice.

A basic server filter system would be awesome, instead of going through each column setting it, and have it change the next time you are in. Besides, you can’t even set it to either has players or doesn’t have players.

I’m just going to prefix this by a statement, which I’d otherwise repeat a few times:
This game has regressed, usability-wise, from Quake Wars. That should not happen.

Things I want to be able to quickly and easily filter:

[ul]
[li]Empty servers
[/li][li]Locked servers
[/li][li]Servers with a ping higher than 150
[/li][li]Servers I otherwise CANNOT PLAY ON.
[/li][li]Servers with my friends on them
[/li][/ul]

Features I want in the server browser:

[ul]
[li]Favorite servers only, without querying the full 500 servers.
[/li][li]Join queue
[/li][li]Server history
[/li][/ul]

Also, the player count doesn’t seem to update after initial query.

isn’t they great? how many choices of be replied by a dev you have in those big ass titles??

Speaking of an update… can we expect one soon?

I kind of want to be able to change my FoV and I want my friends with ATI cards to be able to actually play with me.

You can enter “150” into the filter field for ping I tried this exactly yesterday and it didn’t do anything. Tried <50 50 0 1 23 etc etc, no changes

Choose “Friends” from the “Server Source” field This seems to work about 75% of the time. Last night I had a friend I could see in-game in brink, could click “join game” on them in steam friendslist - which, by the way doesn’t work even though we were told it would I believe - but searching for them in-game returned no results. I had to connect on the IP “view game info” in steam showed

Choose “Favorites” from the “Server Source” field Myself and a friend cannot figure out how to add a server to Favorites. Clicking the star doesn’t do anything and there’s no option when you’re in-game connected to it. Does this also have to be done through steam? For that matter, why not add a button to use the Steam server browser, as it seems to be much quicker in general?

My own individual experience in bold (PC vers, USA)

Ping filters works for me. Just enter 100 into the filter, back out of the server(since the refresh doesn’t actually work in this game), hit the search again, bam. Nothing but 100 servers.

The problem with ping filter, though, is that even though it won’t show any servers that exceed the ping filter, it looks like it’s still internally loading all of them. For instance, if I put “100” into the ping filter, at the bottom it’ll show something like 258/889 with 258 being the servers it only shows you. You’re better off stopping the search once the number on the left stops increasing.

Clicking a star adds your server to favorites. In order to access the favorites, before you start searching for servers, you have to go into the menu that lists stuff like "direct connect “launch game” etc. One of the options will show “internet” and you have to toggle that to “favorites”

I would like to see full servers.

Thanks for the tip about having to exit the server browser and reopen (which is silly but ok, it works). However, the favorite things still doesn’t work. I tried clicking literally everywhere once and twice (hitting escape when it tries to join a game) with nothing happening.

We found an intermittent problem when saving and retrieving servers to Steam’s favorites list. That should be one of the issues addressed in tonight’s client update.
