PC poll: Auto aim/move buffing
Ah right I got this “you still chase people and while doing this, you aim automatically at them” wrong then.

Really great to hear.
Haven’t tested it yet myself, but based on posts elsewhere… I think it does still look towards the target initially, but you’re now able to snap away from that by adjusting your aim with the mouse - while still following the target in terms of position.

well. you still aim automatically at people your chasing when holding “F”. you cannot use your mouse at all. just tested it with bots.

as long as you are not in buff range, you automatically chase people, just like before the patch. if you are in range, you dont automatically aim at people, thats new.

Increment by increment we’ll get there I suppose.

Is it that bad that you can’t accidentally throw something at a player who is out of range and thus waste a pip?

(Crytiqal) #45

If I want to waiste a pip its my prerogative

sounds kind of impractical, but i’ve seen comp players abuse some strange mechanics before.

think of a teammate across the hall from you… “buff” him, tractor beam into the middle of the hall, look around and pick a target, throw out heavy firepower, then tractor beam out. the current “locked aim” penalizes you for moving fast, because IMO looking around freely with a speed boost means you have almost no penalty at all.

even if you make it so no one is allowed to fire while holding the buff button, heavies huge firepower (that will come when they balance the game) will still close rank faster than they should, plus with heavy HP… they’ll be ready to aim and completely aware of all the enemies in the room as soon as they stop moving. not good. it’s almost like a controllable speed hack. the heavy’s main weakness is poor speed.

It’s a necessary evil. The first solution was to give heavies more pips, but I guess that was highly situational while more flexibility in dishing out the stuff is less hard to balance.
