PC poll: Auto aim/move buffing

(tokamak) #1

Just a quick poll to gauge the pc player’s opinion on this feature.

(Ashog) #2

fail???

(gooey79) #3

Lol. No poll there, but I dislike both of them.

(SockDog) #4

If you mean the tractor beaming that steals away all player control then I think it sucks balls and stinks of a feature born from a need to compensate for a controller being very poor at tracking close fast moving targets.

(tokamak) #5

Predictable comments are predictable.

(darthmob) #6

Second option sounds reasonable. I like the surfing as a game mechanic.

(Smokeskin) #7

It should ALWAYS prioritize what is under/closer to your crosshair (unless absurdly far away). That is all that is wrong with it.

If it worked like that, if you aim and judge distance correctly, it does what you want it to. Nobody can complain about that.

If you don’t aim or judge distance correctly, should the systm help you, or shold the action fail? I think it will work better and give more fluid gameplay if it helps people aim or move. When you press Use, you want to do something after all, and most of the time the small correction is fine. The few cases you really don’t want to move, don’t press Use or just make sure your aim is true.

TLDR the only thing wrong is Use doesn’t always prioritize what is under your crosshairs.

(.Chris.) #8

Strafe right.

there should be:

-no auto aim/focus
-no auto follow
-no speed increase
-no hold down actions at all
-better and faster responsiveness for interacting

i think the buff and revive system should be redesigned just a tiny bit. make the revive a function (just like adrenalin, speed boost…). select it via button, press use button to actually revive.

i know that would be a big change, but it doesnt work pretty well right now. almost always when i try to revive a mate, someone else runs between me and the buddy and i buff instead of revive. and if thats not annoying enough, i even turn to that guy and follow him a few steps.

its sucks major ass. also… the sometimes laggy response sucks even more. hold down, nothing happens, even if target is focused. hold button down again. same with the self buff. it behaves weired very often. the best and easiest solution imho is simply remove the hold down actions and put a short deley between a simple PRESS and the actual buff/revive. mashing is more fun than holding. holding breaks my fingers.

(Kurnuttaja) #10

Voted for option 3 because it is the fastest and cannot be abused (heavy medic chasing). I really hate the current setup, slows down gameplay alot.

(legend123) #11

I chose the middle one (cause its convenient).
But in summary it should be a fourth option:

GET RID OF F.

(howie) #12

Where’s the option for do nothing at all. I should be able to select the item I want to use and do so with a mouse click. This is how it’s been done in fps since year dot!

No variation of the current method will be anything other than slow and clumsy compared to what we had in RTCW/ET.

(INF3RN0) #13

I always lol’d at the speed bug when I was playing heavy. Also the overall automation is bad. Just last night I was talking about how much I hate it when I am trying to give a sniper a buff from behind and it drags me all the way in front of them resulting in a ty headshot tk.

(PsYcHo) #14

I’m for option 3! But 2 would be also okay. But SD… please, change it!

(DarkangelUK) #15

Without vsays it’d be hard to get a team mates attention so they don’t dart off while you’re trying to buff them. I liked RtCW’s directional chat function where looking at someone and hitting the chat bind meant only that person saw it, could stop some chasing if surfing was removed.

(tokamak) #16

Results so far are confirming my hunch. The entire thing is highly unpopular. PC players don’t need this.

I think the speed buff is a welcome addition. With the new system it would be incredibly frustrating to run after team-mates that run just as fast as you, theoretically you could follow them across the entire map before you reached them. Without the speed buff it would also be incredibly discouraging to play anything but a light as you won’t be able to disperse your buffs as easily.

The auto-aim however is a pure console feature and I think it’s insulting it’s ever been added to the pc version. All the jittery stuff while chasing after someone makes me feel even more like I’m playing a console port.
But in summary it should be a fourth option:

GET RID OF F.
That’s the third option.

(Wepohn) #17

I don’t see why the lock on should be considered a console feature. RtCW worked fine on console without anything similar. I’d consider it to be a casual feature

I voted for the “Do nothing” option, although I’d prefer the revive and healing kit’s/syringe to be selectable equipment and use as they were in previous games.

(tokamak) #18

Thought about that but I reckoned it would pollute the poll a bit.

(Breo) #19

I have no problems with using 1 button but it shouldn’t change your view (buff), lock your position (planting) or increase your speed for the PC version.

It’s similar to aim assist and that’s a nice feature for the consoles.

Oh guess I got confused. Comprehension fail for me :o

Anyways we clearly see the overwhelming amount of people (including myself) want something to be done with the mechanic… currently its too console-like.
