PC or Console?

(Jamesbiff) #1

ok, so, over my years at university ive managed to collect this generations consoles and i have a pretty bitchin rig (i use it for 3d work and photoshop).

Now, i know SD are primarily PC developers but i was wondering if anyone had any opinions on what would be the best platform to own it on? The objective wheel looks extremely suited to consoles but it also reminds me alot of the com-rose in BF2.

so, any opinions would be great, definitley want to preorder!

Well, if your PC can run it then it’s obviously the right choice. Dedicated servers, mouse and keyboard etc. Unless all your friends are playing on some specific platform…

As stated in another thread, the objective wheel isn’t only suitable for console. Great to press a button and flick the mouse in one direction (ala L4D vsay wheel) rather than having to press one button then press a number key etc.

I would say what’s your favourite gaming area? I prefer PC so I’m biased - I prefer better graphics, dedicated servers and the mouse as an aiming device. But if you prefer sitting on the couch playing games, then go for the XBOX - PS3 had to have its own beta to make sure it was playable… I think XBOX is the safer option there.

i think its just cause i buy everything on my PC, only have my consoles for exclusives.

/sigh, looks like im going to need another external hard drive.:stroggtapir:

i have my pc set up the same way as my consoles :stuck_out_tongue: i sit on my couch with a wireless deskset. No uncomfortably long gaming ours in an uncomfortabl desk chair for me!

Having rid myself of my final console (Xbox 360) last year, I am now a very happy PC gamer. PC is the way to be

(Mustang) #8

The best platform to own it on is going to be the platform you personally prefer to play FPS games on
I prefer PC, so I’ll be getting it on PC

(trigg3r) #9

If your pc can handle it, i’d say go for it. Dedicated servers and mouse/keyboard are allways an improvement over controler and p2p in a fps imo

Looks like ill be going for PC then! does anybody know if any UK store gives the Doom skin preorder for the guns?

im a doom guy at heart, rather than fallout :stuck_out_tongue:

(madoule) #11

search the forums, mate. the uk had very sweet 2-fer-1 deal including doom.
the thread was pretty recent…

EDIT
sorry my bad, i guess i meant this thread: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24228
but here are all UK bonuses for the UK: http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/03/15/brink-preorder-bonuses-in-europe-detailed/

(PsYcHo) #12

Yes, you should get it on pc
Dedicated Servers, M+KB, more things are tweakable etc…

If you prefer PC gaming then it should be a no-brainer. The only advantage to consoles (for me anyways) is my big screen TV + living room couch. I wouldn’t want to play a game on a screen under 40" now that I’m used to a 65. I’m not sure I could squint that much! lol.

But, I think a lot of developers are saying now that the graphics and what not are better on PC because it has so much more RAM than the consoles do. I think the PS3 just has 512 mb (don’t quote me) and that’s just pitiful compared to what computers come with stock nowadays. Not downplaying the PS3 though, I love it, and that’s what I’ll be playing on. But if you’ve assembled a “bitchin” rig and prefer PC games anyways, it’s the very obvious choice in your case. Enjoy yourself!

EDIT: Thanks Linsolv.

PS3 has 256 MB of GPU RAM, 256 MB of general RAM.
360 has 512 MB of general RAM.

Since 360 is used as the lead platform on a lot of multiplatform games, the more complex RAM situation is why the PS3 suffers.

Incidentally, the way that consoles are programmed uses less RAM. For your PC, a lot of RAM gets used because they can’t possibly know what you’re running when and how. With a PS3/360, you can indeed know.

I always vote pc, because i love the control of mouse and keyboard i cant seem to get with a gamepad. That and i guess its what im used to, but Im sure each version will have its own merits.

(Mustang) #16

I believe it’s Game and Gamestation that will doing the Doom pack

(Prividyenie) #17

Im getting it for PS3, shopped in my Xbox a while back due to irreconcilable differences. Also could not afford to buy or build a PC, nor do i even understand PC speak enough to actually know what my money would be paying for.
Very, very sad to hear that the consoles wont get dedicated servers. I hate P2P so much it makes me want to burn kittens

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #18

LOL! P2P only sucks if the netcode sucks. Other games have had P2P and worked really well. Killlzone 2 springs to mind.

However If Brink is as amazingly amazing as i hope it’s gonna be and the online on PSN is unplayable. Im saving up for a PC that can run it.

(TheBIG_Lebowski) #19

I play on the PS3. I would love to play on PC but, I don’t have the money to build a decent rig. So console it is for me.

(Linsolv) #20

Same here. I’m actually planning on getting a PC the minute that $550 touches anywhere near my fingers. But that’s not necessarily soon.
