PC = more buttons.

Obviously every button is customizable, and this time on every platform. But how is the fact that controllers have less buttons handeled?

A recent example would be Bulletstorm. In that game there is no jump, there only a context-sensitive spot where you can climb over things which is handeled by the A button. The A button also runs when held down and slides when double pressed. On the PC version it made no sense tho. Jump (climb), sprint and and slide (I guess it would be the crouch) are all one button. And you can’t change that. I realise that in Brink you don’t just have to use the SMART button, but similiar situations could occur.

For example in the videos it is clear that you can buff your teammates. Usually the ‘X’ button appears on the characters. What would the ‘X’ button do usually? Reload? Because I don’t want to buff my enemies with the reload button, I can totally have a separate / ‘use’ button for it.

Does the character take his tools out only at specific places? Like for example the Engineer has the torch or something (used to be pliers or whatever in ET) to build stuff etc. Can I only take it out at the specific places with the use button? Or is it something that is an active ability and goes on the D-Pad which probably equals number keys on the keyboard?

What about the the freeze gun or whatever for disarming bombs? Same thing.

Although it would be probably easier to just have one use key instead of scrolling through the specific tools. But the question about the buff key for example still says.

tl;dr I am just wondering if there are keys that have more than 1 use (like sometimes context specific uses) and if there is a way to separate those buttons on the PC.

PS: Brink is coming out in 2-3 weeks. PC footage please. :stroggtapir:

Your tool only comes out when you are interacting with something that needs it. It is not a selectable item, like a weapon.

I’m guessing “X” is the use key, as seen when the engineer uses his welding device to repair the crane and set up MG Nests… and reload would be a shoulder button.

(H0RSE) #5

I’m pretty sure on console, the use button handles class actions (like buffs, heals, ammo) interacting (placing bombs, hacking, disarming, placing turret) and reloading.

By default, (xbox) the shoulder buttons are LB = Sprint/SMART, RB = grenade, and the triggers are aim and shoot.

god damn it! he put’s the tl;dr summary right at the bottom AFTER I read everything ><

Anyway, I am already uncomfortable that the SMART and sprint keys are the same button, I don’t hope this is the case for even more stuff.

If we can’t distinguish a separate sprint button then it will be kind of weird. I mean how are we going to the regular spint/jump/crouch scheme and still use the SMART button for sprint. I forsee it breaking my thing. Maybe I want to sprint and look up without the guy grabbing a ledge above me.

I remember the old days of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark though, where I’d open a door instead of reloading though. Lol.

Then you tap it instead of holding it down.

Tap = sprint
hold down = engage SMART.

If I’m holding it down am I automatically running? Or do I tap to sprint and then hold it down to SMART?

So if I just want to sprint in the cluttered container city I keep tapping the shift key over and over again? That gets kind of annyoing doesn’t it?

That’s klind of the point of the thread.

You tap it once, and you sprint until you stop moving. Just one tap is needed to engage sprint.

(Crytiqal) #14

@Tokamak :smiley:

@Must
You thought you would have to sprint shift like QWOP?

(Mustkunstn1k) #15

Oh.

That’s actually a good solution.
:D:penguin:

(Crytiqal) #16

Not really, now I must hover my pinky the entire time above my keyboard, lol

I’d rather have the possibility to seperate

(LyndonL) #17

So you can hover your finger above another key? Eugh.

(Crytiqal) #18

Like what? The anatomy of my hand makes my left pinky perfectly placed above the SHIFT button :stuck_out_tongue:

(phoen1x) #19

Hi how is your day today? Took the pills already?
No seriously, what u expect from PC version? I’m kinda sick of this “no pc version shown” bullcrap.
