(PC) Let us turn off auto-SMART

(Kurnuttaja) #1

So we could use shift only for sprinting because spacebar works just perfectly even when not holding shift down. All the moves can be executed by jumping and difference in it is that I can take total control of the actions, unlike with auto-SMART.
Problems with auto-SMART are pretty common when sprinting near some small objects/fences when it just takes me over the fence when I didnt want to. I cant get used in toggle sprint, it just simply does not work aswell (having to stop after jumping, taking complete turn, looking around and actually anytime not pressing w for a sec).

Just a simple option:
auto-SMART on/off

:stroggtapir:

YES,pretty please!

I so agree.Sometimes i just run,an enemys comes around the corner and i wanna shoot him but instead of being able to shoot him properly i first make an akward SMART move which is like an instant death.

(tokamak) #3

all the moves can be executed by jumping

Do you have a way of sliding that we don’t know off?

(Sgt.Smegma) #4

yes please, would be nice. I own enough fingers to do this!

(Kurnuttaja) #5

You need to hold shift to slide? Please dont be an idiot.

(donmichelangelo) #6

Splash Damage should seriously leave it to us gamers if we wanna auto SMART or for example a semi SMART.

The way it is actually implemented sucks for PC gamers. Well it might be nice and useful for console gamers but PC sucks really and let us please jump like in idtech3 based games, i.e. Quake, vanilla ET whatsoever, but the jumping in Brink is horrible, it is even not realistic to real Parkour…

(Glyph) #7

Technically I see no reason why this option should not be included for consoles as well.

(Jak Swift) #8

S.M.A.R.T works perfectly on consoles. so if SD do acknowledge this, let it be known.

(Overgear) #9

No but you have to be sprinting at the time.
You also said “all moves can be executed by jumping” which is the spacebar by default. Sliding is done with ctrl by default. No need to get angsty because he called you out.

(weeschwee) #10

i just want auto wall running and sliding off. i always use jump to mantle objects faster, but at the most random times my character will slide. and sometimes my character will wall run. i’ve purposely tried to wall run without jumping first and i can’t manage it! it seriously tricks me out when the game does it automatically.

an option to turn toggle sprint off would be nice, but for me this is the one game i need it on. i think manual sliding would be difficult while having to hold sprint.

(Trivve) #11

I swear I read somewhere that they said everything what S.M.A.R.T can do - you can do manually and faster.
Also that It could be disabled server-side.

I’m personally against anything that is automated in a PC game. That includes “linking” and auto-turning when buffing. One-button-wonders sucks.

(Mustkunstn1k) #12

I’m not that bothered by the toggle, but I guess optional things always make things better.

(adrian783) #13

i will never understand what is wrong with toggle run

(DjIceman) #14

My God, yes. Using the light body type is damn near impossible if you’re, say, trying to move about properly.

Same here, i love walking up stairs and accidentally climbing over the hand railing twice on the way up, because I am checking the surroundings :stuck_out_tongue:

Then the only problem left is that I keep healing people standing next to me when I try to revive someone I have my crosshair on

I totally agree with you I hate the auto-follow buffing too but I dont think theres anything wrong with one-button wonders though. If they would just allow us to turn that auto-follow off and make F instantly stick with one button mash without turning.

(Kendle) #18

Having played Urban Terror for a couple of years, which has wall-jumping, climbing and power-sliding, all done with sprint / jump / crouch keys, I’m sure SMART could’ve been implemented without needing a button for it, and if everything in Brink (including wall-jumping) can be done without SMART I’d happily unbind it.

In fact I find SMART isn’t that smart sometimes, like I’ll want to jump ON to something but SMART will make me jump OVER it.

So +1 for optionally turning off SMART, however I’d like sprint in that case to be a “press to sprint, release to stop sprinting” function rather than a toggle as it is now.

(obliviondoll) #19

I’m on PS3 and I want to be able to do this too.

Signing the request for a “disable Auto-SMART” function on ALL platforms. Pressing the button when you’re running near a wall or bar counter or something will occasionally make you vault or mantle it even if you’re not aiming that way. And when you run into another player or a bot, you keep moving through them, but it interrupts normal sprinting, so you HAVE to hold the button, and being forced to auto-SMART in those situations is REALLY frustrating.

Having more options is better for everyone, please SD let us turn off this devil smart !
