Stuff in ETQW (and I think Quake 3 was on the same scale, but I’m not positive) was measured in ‘units’.
Standard sprinting speed was about 360 units/second, I think?
Players were ~80 units tall, so if you take it that they’re 6’6" including boots and helmet, then 1 unit = 1 inch. (If you take it that players should be shorter, then you need to reduce all the speeds below.)
360 units / second = 360 inches/s = 914.4 cm/s = 9.144 m/s
They could run the 100m sprint in 10.936 seconds (with a rolling start etc).
IIRC chaining QCJ in ETQW you could hit around 600 units / second, which is 600/360 = 5/3 times faster, 15.24 m/s, or the 100m sprint in 6.56 seconds.
In Quake 3, I think with strafejumping on one of the long defrag straight courses I could hit 1250 ish units/s, which is like 31.75 m/s, or the 100m sprint in 3.14 seconds.
Brink’s light bodytype movement speed is about 260 units/second I think? Which is something like 6.6 m/s, or the 100m sprint in 15.14 seconds.
/disclaimer: I did all of the above from memory without checking exact figures or double-checking the maths.
