PC Gaming

Hello Fans and Devs!

My mates and i are planning to buy this game. We are an old school clan. We played a lot with AvP2, UT99. But now there are no other games that would be able to give back the mood of the old games. We tried the CoD series and Bulletstorm and other stuff but they were nothing like the old games. U can feel the chained atmosphere of the consoles. ( “press space to get across the ledge”, no text chat, cheesy movement, no jump, ADS… )

My question is: Does the PC version bring back the old feeling? Or its just another console port shooter?
If it does we would definietly buy a four-pack-sale or something like that.

Greetings from Hungary

No it doesn’t bring back the old feeling as it incorporates lots of console “features”. But hey, SD already announced they weren’t in for that old feeling, they’d rather have the game be more accessible.

Oh i see. And what do u think? Will it be good for long-life game for PC? I mean i don’t know u. What is your suggestion? Should we buy it or wait for something else? I don’t want to be disappointed again :S

Game isn’t out yet. It wouldn’t be unwise to wait for a demo, reviews and such.

ive liked SD games so far, ETQW, And ive herd W:ET was jst as good. So i plan on buying Brink. might i suggest trying W:ET out for a bit, as it is free (however i dunno if there is still players in your neck of the woods?). It might give u a good base to work from, but then again i wouldnt base Brink totally off any other game as it is probably going to vary.

well. brink wont have anything to do with avp or ut.

its objective based teamplay. its not about running randomly through a map. you run a specific path to complete objectives. escort a vehicle or something like that. take a look at the gameplay videos or play some wolf: et and you know what i mean.

i mean, if your an oldschool clan you probably know wolf:et. if not… did you live on mars under a rock the last couple of years? it basicly invented the genre and theres no game that comes near that experience, even now.

my personal opinion is that brink will be the one and only shooter that plays like an oldschool shooter. it has lots of new concepts of course, but the base will be very oldschool’ish.

not compareable to bulletstorm, cod, crysis2 or anything else i know. it might not have that fancy modern glow graphics that ut3 or crysis2 can render so good, maybe it even feels “old”, but thats exactly what im looking forward to. the core is still doom3, and theres nothing more oldschool than an id software shooter.

I think we should wait and see when it comes out, instead of making stupid assumptions and ‘I worry’ ‘concerned’ and other bull**** threads.

Yeah sure, buy it, for many this will be a great experience, but it would be dishonest to say this game wants to relate to the good old days, it clearly doesn’t.

Welcome to the forums, dont ever criticise Brink here, you’ll be beaten by the ambiant nerdrage fanboism…

Brink wont be “oldschool”, there are many features that are a big rebutal for old vet as it has been stated many times, Its understandable as SD want to expand and that’s Bethesda who give the meanie monies anyway. If you like games ala UT99 etc I wouls suggest you to play QLive, its free and very hardcore. If you fell that you want a bit of fresh air without playing the slowass_half_finished_console_ports that are CoD and BC2 I suggest you to try Brink as it’ll be prolly one of the last game you can consider as “semi-oldschool”, its the end of an era! Sad but True

Peace

Actually if you like games like UT99, please play games like UT99, I’ve just picked it up again and I want to see more players online.

I’ll try to install it soon too  My old pc is gettin older and even etqw doesnt run smoothly anymore on it (pieces are starting to overheat and shizzle)

I’ll focus on older game like that till I can buy a new rig.

Peace

“…press space to get across the ledge…”

I spent the better part of an hour retrying the Vietnam level in Black Ops, over and over before realizing that you need to kick the friggin barrels. I am glad I didn’t buy the game.

Thank u guys!

These are very useful infos and thanks for your honest opinions.

btw i know this wont be like avp nor ut99 but i want to find a rly worthy game for my friends. I’ll look forward to new vids and infos about this game. And i hope everyone will be happy when it comes out.

As long as the game is treated to console standards I would say it’s on the level of TF2. Great fun with a bunch of friends, but not something you’d want to devote yourself to. Consequently, my friends are laggards when it comes to shooters so this can wait for me.

I really regret I didn’t buy that unreal pack during Christmas, I would’ve loved the steam compactibillity.

Yeah, i know what is that… We bought black ops as well and sometimes im so mad cuz of the geometry issues and random fps drops. The zombies are cool tho

It’ll be out in June/July again during the “summer sales” Toka

(Mustkunstn1k) #17

I really hope that they put a dev console in the game. Doing other-wise would be a stupid move imho.

(tokamak) #18

Good! Spent the weekend on phobos and I was amazed how the ancient graphics could still impress me.

(LaCr0) #19

I have the game but i cant add it to Steam… I think ill buy it again. It’s my favorit. Sometimes i just put the UT OST in the cd player…those are awesome tracks

Absolutely amazing yeah, got blown to bits while staring blankly to the screen while humming those tunes.
