PC Gaming Sales to Surpass Console?

Nvidia seems to think so…

You can’t predict sales that far ahead.

How is that even relevant to this topic?

Yeah it was a multi-platform game.

I think with the rise of digital distribution, their more intuitive social gaming tools and CPU/APU/GPU hardware surpassing that of consoles at a base level people will be fine to use the PC they have rather than turn on a separate box to play a game.

Biggest hurdles I see.

  1. New Generation of Consoles. If they leapfrog it could reset the cycle but the PC still has a good couple of years to make more headway
  2. MS purposely sabotage PC gaming yet again to keep the Xbox relevant
  3. Getting PC content onto a TV
  4. OnLive type services, especially if they partner with cable/sat operators via their STBs.

On competing with consoles I’d say point 3 was the largest issue for many consumers and unless we start seeing a take off of wireless hdmi being integrated into PC chipsets I doubt it’s going to change.

Point 4 could go either way, if you get OnLive as part of your package TV why would many people buy a PC or Console to play games?

Of course nV would say so, they feed from this market.
And when you get PC content to the big screen you start worrying about proper control devices to operate all that on the couch. So, gamepads and autoaim.

nvidia and ati have their stuff in each wii, 360, and PS3. that being said, i am unsure of how that shapes the market nV “feeds” from. all microsoft wants to do for gaming is find the best lock in to make its cash now. gfwl is one of the strongest game buying (i mean, licensing) deterrents i can think of, it’s a bigger blemish to street fighter 4 arcade edition than capcom’s own dlc shenanigans. now that i can end my daily rant about that… let’s see how isp’s finagle and justify their subscriptions with digital delivery and video streaming increasing demand. who’s in bed with who has been the name of the game for some time and the “competition is good for the consumer” mantra has reflected some good yet some laughable results.

btw, that graph was very generous as i could barely see a discernible difference in the pc - console sales gap until they started projecting! also, yeah, i would spend tons of time on ds and a bit on wii when not gaming on pc.

nV has its stuff only in PS3, and nobody would ever disclose details, so we can`t know if they get royalties from every unit sold or not, and how big that royalty is. Then again, they probably predict that growth using facebook “games” and things like that.

The industry undoubdetly needs some kind of spoken or unspoken agreement on new content distribution technologies.

Personally I would believe this… But only until the PS4 and Xbox erm 720? Is out and then it’ll be back to how it was a few years ago - Consoles running the martket

Personally I tend to get RPG type games on the PC and Racing / FPS on PS3/Xbox pretty much the only type of games I seem to be playing at the moment and I can’t see the ratio changing for me (perhaps move fps over to PC once I have one they can run them)

lol, for that chart to be true for a customer, you’d need to buy a new gfx card for the price of a console every year
