PC Gamers: Anyone getting booted out of game?

(Cep) #1

Just wanted to know if its just me but in the last couple of days I have been getting dropped completely out of game. Its weird.

I’ll be playing away quite happily with 30-40 ping and then all of a sudden I am at the character selection screen, no disconnection message, no error warning, no nothing.

Then when I try to re-enter a game, all the buttons are greyed out except local hosting? My connection to the internet is fine, I can quickly boot up a browser and pick a random website to visit but for some bizarre reason Brink stops working.

Then when I exit and re-enter the game I get some nonsense about how Steam can’t verify my game files are synchronised?

Anyone?

yep happening to me as well. Not as often today as it was two days ago though. I couldn’t even finish a map before losing connection over a 2 hour span. Granted I got irritated and only tried a handful of times but it seemed the problem was very frequent for a few hours.

(Cep) #5

I think what concerns me is, there doesn’t appear to be a reason why it happens. I mean Steam might well be to blame (and I am certainly leaning towards that theory) but the reason the files fall out of sync could just be a result of whatever is happening in game to cause the boot out.

thats why steam pisses me off. and the fact so many games are using it. plus its ugly interface. plus the fact you have to go through all that crap. god cant we just click on the game and it runs.

only good thing about steam is the deals.

now obviously the huge crowd of pro-steam users will bash me :penguin:

That happens everytime the steam friends goes offline, and that happens quite often, about sync after you leave the game that happens to me everytime too.

Well in steams defense I did have friends in tf2/cs/etc that did not crash and some that I was even talking to that asked me if I had got any of their messages.(they didn’t even know I was offline)

So it might not be completely on steam… or it could be that steam is hating on Brink too.

(Je T´aime) #9

Ye i´ve played a lot of other source steam games and that does not happen just happens with brink for me wich is strange.

(Overgear) #10

Same, steam friends is playing up a bit. It did it last night and a bit earlier.

Brink requires a Steam connection to be in an MP game.

Since Brink’s release Steam has in fact been going offline more often than the months before release.

If Steam is doing maintenance on their systems and yours or the servers connection gets dropped to Steam then you will get booted out of your Brink game everytime.

Other Steam games do counter this fairly well, but Brink is not one of them. This situation also afflicts the Brink servers as well and when it occurs then servers drop also. So not only does it affect the client side of things it will kill a server which is most of the reason that you are getting dumped from the match you were playing.

From what I have read around these forums, as long as the servers would not die when it happens you would still be able to stay in game.

The server requires a connection to steam all the time and only allows for 30 seconds of no communication. Where as the clients only need Steam connection for getting into the game, and should be unaffected after initial connection. I am not saying it works exactly the way it is supposed to, but if it does the only thing that should have to be done is figure out how to prevent the servers needing to stay connected to Steam

If I start Brink and Alt-Tab out to post something on the forums I notice that the next server I play on will kick me with a “Server Shut Down” message after 10-15 minutes. I get kicked to my character screen and the ability to join internet games is greyed out. If I exit Brink and restart it I have no problem reconnecting and none of the other people on the server were kicked (ie it didn’t shut down).

Sounds like a memory leak to me. If you have to Alt-Tab or otherwise minimize Brink I recommend restarting it before entering a new match.

(Deadwalking) #13

JJ I have never seen that situation occur. Good to know. Thanks.

I did have an issue pre 2 patches ago that I couldn’t alt-tab without the game crashing after about 5 min, but that was fixed in the last patch. At least how it occurred for me.

(Cep) #14

JJ, yes! I can confirm that what you say is true, if you alt-tab on Steam and join a server you get kicked off the server about 10-15 minutes later on with a “server shutdown” message.

many team mates have the problem of authentication and get booted from the game :expressionless:

ps: steam got offline several times lately. i dont get why i bought the game on the store and to play it i have to pass through steam…

(Cep) #16

This is real reason people hate steam.

(Capricious) #17

Yep, I get this. “Server shut down” message in Brink, internet connection seems gone at server menu, get back to steam and it says no connection along the bottom.

After restarting steam once or twice, I get a connection again.
