[drupal=623]Paul Wedgwood interviewed on GamePro.com[/drupal]

GamePro’s online pastures feature a new interview with Brink’s Game Director Paul Wedgwood, filled with interesting bits and pieces about the game. The Q&A covers a lot of ground and goes over Splash Damage’s history, the origins of the SMART system, how and why modern FPS titles blend different genres, and much more. It’s well worth a read - go check it out!

Nice, well written interview - they even spelled mr Wedgwood’s name right.

BRINK will be a killer app. :stroggtapir:

It’s multiplateform, ‘killer appz’ is, AFAIK, a term used for a soft/games only available on a specific hardware.

Of course, this was all built around our trademark objective-driven gameplay, which is heavily inspired by the type of experience you get in a traditional single player game.

or in rtcw mp

You can get apps on multiple platforms facepalm

Best part of the interview

I would have to say the funniest, scariest, and most interesting moment from development so far was when I stumbled across Aubrey sneaking around the basement of our old office. He was brandishing a real AK-47 (he promises it was disabled), had taped a web camera to his forehead, and was pretending to prime a grenade with only his left hand while holding it directly in front of his face. It was a fairly alarming sight

Then it’s not a killer appz any more.

You’re an idiot

Another pointless discussion by AnthonyDa ™

1 application that works on multi-platforms is still 1 app(lication)

(Voxie) #9

No one said it wasn’t. The debate is whether Brink is a killer app or not.

Spoiler: It isn’t. A killer app is used to describe a computer program that’s pivotal for a specific system. Since Brink is multi-platform it’s not really a killer app.

(Nail) #10

yet to be seen, therefore no way to be known

actual def :
any computer program that is so necessary or desirable that it proves the core value of some larger technology

(tokamak) #11

That’s what you get if interviews don’t give anything substantial to disagree on.

(Voxie) #12

Which in no way contradicts my definition. If you copy/paste from the Wikipedia article, try to read it in its entirety to make sure you grasp the subject.

edit: Tokamak, that’s what you get if you underestimate the length any given member on this forum will go to disagree about anything.

(Nail) #13

I grasp the subject completely, the term was around before video games, Lotus 1-2-3 was the first truely killer app for me. So, cross platform gaming couldn’t by your definition be a killer app ?

(AnthonyDa) #14

No because it doesn’t “kills” other platform.

(darthmob) #15

Don’t you have weapon laws in the UK? An AK-47 is a pretty big gun in my opinion.

(Smooth) #16

I’d be more worried about the grenade…

(Voxie) #17

Since Brink will be available to virtually all platforms that realistically can run it, calling it a killer app would be a stretch. Lotus 1-2-3 was a killer application because it was available exclusively for the IBM PC, whereas Brink will be available to the PC and both console systems capable of running it.

In layman’s terms, the definition of a killer app is quite simple: there’s a demand for system X, because it’s the only one that runs software Y.

Also, sorry for the tact in my last post; hectic day.

Moar MoAR MOAR, ty :).

(Nail) #19

gotta agree there

btw, you can own demob guns in any size in UK

(darthmob) #20

Oh, I read he was only pretending to hold a grenade.
