Paul Wedgwood Interview in retrospective

…and yet you still stick around posting junk on this forum of a boring game with a very low skill ceiling.

(Verticae) #22

God forbid anyone would offer to help SD with ways they could improve their game.
We’ve got several staff members that volunteer their time to help moderate the forums. It’s not part of their job description or their task list, but something they help out with when they get a break. Not sure why you feel the need to attack them for helping to keep this place semi-sane.

Lastly, we welcome constructive criticism and always have done. IOW, don’t drive a bulldozer through the forum rules and you’ll be just fine.
Well, i’ll tell you exactly why i feel the need to “attack” your staff members. I spent £40 on an almost broken game. I spent £40 and got a half finished game with 8 maps. In what way is that acceptable? Seriously, I’d love to know how you people can justify selling this game in its current state and expect your customers to quietly wait months for it to be patched. Personally, If i was a core fan of the game i’d be seriously p****d that after weeks of daily questions and pleas for just some reassuring words, which were all met with complete silence and disregard. It took a troll to bring you out and get some response. You know what? Don’t bother responding to me. Go talk to the people wondering about the dlc. Or the people who want to know if the game will be fixed. Go talk to the fans who have stuck by your dying game and give them some kind of reassurance. I don’t care anymore. Like the rest of the gaming community, i’ve moved on

(SinDonor) #24

Ugh, whatever. The same complaints have been squawked over and over and over. I think the SD folks have heard it all. God forbid the haters just shut up already and move on to the next game that “sucks”.

(SinDonor) #25

No, you haven’t, you’re still in here bitching and moaning.

Beware its getting quite esoteric from here on  SD should have accepted one thing. Like with absolutely everything in this Universe you can’t have two mostly opposite things at once. There’s no sprinter on this planet wich could win olympic gold in running a marathon. And theres not a single marathon runner wich could achieve a gold medal in sprinting. You could train for both and you will be mediocre in both. theres no way around it. Never ever. Its allways; armor or speed(tank), traction or speed(tires)…You can’t have both in one and expect it to be also better than everything else out there, in both or even just one of the two opposing attributes.

In computer games we have the great virtue of actually being able to have both, a great MP and SP, in one game. AS LONG AS YOU KEEP THEM SEPERATED IN GAMEPLAY. You can’t mix them and have a great all in one monster that does both exceedingly great.

SD tried to trick the strongest natural law there is. Its what determines our whole being. The fact that you are forced to allways decide between two opposing attributes. Wanting both is childish(literally; no offense)

You can try it but you will allways end up in the realm of mediocre. Its an actual law you can’t trick.

The better a SP game is, the worse it would be as a MP game. Ande vice versa. Except if you change the gameplay utterly in both incarnations of the same game.

We’re all just bummed out and frustrated and honestly…i bet all of you are as well

No one intended for it to be like this

(Terminator514) #28

Kind of sounds like another game that has recieved critical praise and enjoys immense popularity. COUGH Call of Duty COUGH.

I like how Brink anti-fanboys try to act like everything is SD’s fault, if you don’t like the game no one’s making you play it; sorry you emptied your piggy bank for it.

Watch that DEVELOPER interview and you will see why Brink failed.

Its all about making things easy. Low skill.

He was actually proud that they were making voice coms only accessible to people on your friends list and how in playtest people were getting things done without having to do that pesky thing called communication. Explain to me how you can honestly say that this game is great for competition when you spent five minutes before that talking about how simple and low skill it was.

At around 3m10s he talks about ETQW and how brink has a lot more depth. I almost spit my coffee out.
Okay, I’ve got something to say.

I’d say ETQW was a complex game (all the HUD complaints). It two weeks for me to get a feel of it when it was released despite playing Wolf ET for 1+ year and Beta 1, beta 2 and Demo.

This complexity, combined with the mad skillz developed some of the player base over time made it very difficult for new players to get in. I for one had 6 months of ETQW play time on ETQW’s launch day and could ram a hog head on into a titan on day 1 while dodging all it’s shots.

For the newb at the turrent of that titan, it wasn’t funny.

Or imagine the mad skillz required for the tormentor, a skill which by the end of Beta 2 was probably in only the hands of a few players (Dom mafia for one). Some of the hardcore player base never learnt how to fly the tormentor or anansi.

So, I believe what SD did in Brink was to err for a better word, dumb it down with the F key. Unfortunately, that pissed off the player base which was left over from the attrition of the player base from 3 years of ETQW. This existing player base HAS mad skillz and were disappointed with Brink. I myself imagined a game where you actually didn’t have SMART and had to actually hit keys to climb over obstacles etc.

This led to a sort of exodus of experienced players, the sort which can play for hours at an end. Without players, this game’s nothing. As was the case with their previous Wolf ET and ETQW.

(el1as) #30

why he doesn’t release a video interview now talking about the game and its impact on the players?

(.FROST.) #31

Yeah, exactly. Anyone knows the “Questions with Steve” thing from Dead Space 2? They are doing exactly this now with behind the scenes stuff and fan votes.

(tokamak) #32

We don’t exactly know how these two relate to each other, I’m treating them as one entity.
