is point_00 also a path_corner ? as far as i know you will have to link your car which ofc has an origin brush within to the route too. i think you forgot that or maybe i cant see it from here. the picture says you forgot 
Yes as far as I can tell.
The brown lines link them all up together in a rectangle shape.
As for the origin brush, maybe someone could tell me if I have this right.
It moves well enough up to the top the veers off course.
here is a short how to:
create the car or whatever you want to move, create an origin brush not more than 8 units above, select them bove and make them script_mover. give them all necessary keys for the script and stuff
then, create the path_corners and link them together (you have done that)
then, and this is what i think is wrong, link your cable car to the first path_corner (point_01).
your script should do the rest.
i hope i dont forget sth. maybe i am now totally stupid and simply misread the picture, i dont have the map file to take a closer look.
I’ve made a small video that is on the webpage now.
As you can see the cart comes back to point_05 but stops.
Then if I press the button again it goes from that point to point_01 without going through point_00
I’ve tried renumbering them all but that didn’t help either.

unfortunately it dont go to the full end.
but it looks like you have done everything correct 
edit: hm…maybe it is better if you dont make your path_corners cyrcled. just make one line from corner 1 to corner 4 and script your cable_car along that line, back and forth.

I eventually got this going, by removing all the even numbered points.
However on testing we found that it worked perfectly until someone pressed the button while it was on its journey, then it just went haywire.
So My questions are.
a) How do I disable/enable the button
but more importantly
b) How do I just make it so it starts automatically on game start so we never need the button and the cable car just goes round and round on its own ?

id say make it a loop.
script the cable car along the corners and when it has reached the last corner type in your script to trigger the same path again. f.i. if your block is named cable_car_mover your script should look like this.
cable_car_mover {
trigger activate {
//drive command
//and then at the end and type
trigger cable_car_mover activate
}
}
this way it will loop the whole map.
might be other possibilies too, but this is how i would do

I noticed that Qualmi had time to answer. Also trigger it from the spawn event to start the loop.
