patches

is there anyway to solve this problem?

as you can see there are gaps between the 2 patches, is there anyway to fix that?

(shagileo) #2

Here’s a possible solution (see screenshot)

Not sure if it’s a good way, but it’s something that popped in my mind.

Split at the blue stripes, and use ‘v’ to drag them in the correct place to close the gaps

  1. why don’t you just make the first a big bigger? :stuck_out_tongue:

And second, make the amount of sides twice as much.

(Avoc) #4

Copy + paste the green patch right below it, and resize it.

(UJERebel) #5

Then you have 2 brushes? isnt making the first 1 bigger better??

(stealth6) #6

@ avoc that’s what i did
they are both simple patch meshes with 3x3 size (3 rows, 3 columns)

The editor takes away columns automatically as you make it smaller :frowning:

@ Rebel ofc I can’t make it smaller that’s the whole problem, needs to fit with what I have

But increasing the columns does work, unfortunately the insert columns tool, and the add columns tool seem to do the same thing for me, they keep adding more columns to 1 side only, so one side becomes smoother.

Also the smoothing tool doesn’t seem to help that either :frowning:

I’ve now tried to rebuild it with a 5x3 patch, but ends in the same result will now try more.

Still interested if anybody knows and easier way

oops almost forgot @ shagi can’t split them

(IndyJones) #7

nearly everything u want to do with patches, is possible with brushes.

(stealth6) #8

mm I guess so, but patches are ‘normally’ easier
but now they are being a pain in the ***

Anyway I seem to have been able to make a fix for this time

on the inside of the corner I broke it into 2 pieces and then added columns and moved vertexes till it looked nice.
Then the same thing on the outside but then the patch it split into 4 pieces.

afaik radiant will show those patches as you have it in first pic… But when control points of the patches do match, it will be drawn correctly ingame. E.g. the engine will subdivide both the same
