Part of the source of our dissappointment.

Why were so many rubbed the wrong way when Brink was released?

Because they didn’t give us the version of the game we wanted.

When we saw the pre-alpha build in 2009, the game looked great! Good textures, lighting, neat neat motion blur and smooth movement. We go buy the released version and we get a crappy campaign that didn’t have the cut-scenes that were shown that actually looked pretty damn good. I mean, the campaign looked DAMN good. But the campaign that I played when I bought Brink made me go WTF. This isn’t anything like what they showed us! Besides that, we got dodgy aiming, lag, bad textures and a sound design that made our ears bleed every time we got shot. The way objectives are notified now look like **** compared to how they looked in the early build. (They didn’t highlight the objective, which is very disorienting in dark lighting.)

The point is, the Brink we fell in love with is the one located in the videos below, not the one thousands upon thousands of people paid $60 for.

Bumping the thread.

“the Brink we fell in love with”?

You fell in love with a commercial? You know it’s called advertising right? I don’t think that if I use AXE body spray, women will throw themselves at me, even though that’s what happens (what they PROMISED!) in the ads.

Here’s a good reason to be dissappointed - SD made a couple of very sound multi-player shooters in ET and QW and then squandered a lot of the good will built up by their fans by releasing a buggy console port. From what I read here, it’s buggy on the consoles as well, so there you have it. I’m not pissed about the $55 I spent on Brink, they got my money on this one. It’s the next one I’m not so sure about. SD has moved from the “do no evil” short list of developers to the “meh - I’ll wait for the reviews” pile.

Sorry for bumping your bitchfest. But really, if you don’t like the game, just move on.

your name says it all, but if you want to call it advertising then you could possibly go the route of false advertising. now don’t get me wrong i love this game but I’m also a bit dissapointed with all they cut out but still decided to promote.

Well the graphics were misleading on SD’s part. Its actually the PC version played with a 360 controller in the videos.

So OP is pissed that footage from a PREVIEW from Dec 2009 doesn’t match what we got? You’re going to be really happy with the graphics on DN:F then because they are way better than the previews I’ve seen from 1997.

All the Demos they did were shown via PC to be sure. It’s the only way they could show off the best quality graphics. If they showed demos via 360 or PS3 you would definitely have seen a drop is visual quality. Consoles just can’t match the power of a beefed up gaming PC rig.

wow, those vids do look very different then the copy of brink sitting on my shelf haha, not to hate or anything but it sort of reminds me of cod in a way those vids. but nonetheless that’s very interesting to see those early vids compared to this final product, quite a shocker.

I wish they’d stop developing PC version with a console controller. Cause then it turns into a console game. USE A DAMN KEYBOARD AND MOUSE ON THE COMPUTER IT’S NOT A CONSOLE. Raven did this with Wolfenstein and now SD. God I hope rage isn’t like this crap, at least that could be an enjoyable single player game. BF3 or MW3 will be the next gold FPS… Maybe. But nothing else to look forward to after the flop of making a console port on the PC. Damn shame.
