Packet loss

(acQu) #1

If i do not get the message by whom a was killed, does that count as packet loss?

I have encountered numerous examples of these. Just no message on my scree what so ever.

Let’s take this one example, but i am sure i can come up with more: if i get hit by my teammates dyno and no message at all gets displayed, is that packet loss?

EDIT in addition i have to say: i have instruced my provider years ago to use fastpath for routing.

Hope they do a network pass soon…

Sometime hit-register is night and day on different servers and night and day 2 minutes apart even on the same server!!!

Another example:

it says “enemy got stole the X” (example when they steal the obj on terminal), but ever so often that message never gets through to me.

I am 100% sure on this, cause it happened numerous times to me already.

Possibly related.

Yup, very frustrating

and you guys can for 1000% be certain that it is not your connection…? Not much SD can do for you there. Better call your ISP than opening threads here.

Seriously…

No comment on your comment. If you cant say something nice then dont say anything at all right… This post made me rage!

Like it or not, they cant change the way you are connected. On some days my ISP goes wonky and ALL online games I play turn into **** cause commands dont make it to the servers or visa versa. Totally odd behaviour thats you never see else, like being solo on the server in ghost mode or invisible players or or or. Thats not a DB problem. In my case calling the ISP and filing a complaint works, cause they are normally able to provide a 100% stable connection. Dont know for your connections but until you absolutely know for sure that 100% of your UDP traffic goes through, youre in a bad position for complaining - Or youre just barking at the wrong tree.

I don’t think any of the issues mentioned are related to packet loss or ISP issues though, so the thread still has use.

You might be right, i should have not opened another of those precious 4 kbyte threads somewhere on SDs hard disk. And i totally mean that. It could also just be just my connection.

I played W:ET alot in the so called mid-ages (not during Jesus times so to speak), and i think i have played enough matches to conclude that something in this age and time might be wrong with my end side of the things. Maybe it is my neighbour draining my resources, downloading huge amounts of gigabytes: i have heard him doing that (movies and all the porn of the internetz … :D).

No but seriously: my point is: i have played W:ET and there all the messages came through. There was never a problem with integrity of the game.

That is why i rather blame it on my connection rather than anything user-level (AKA shootergame.exe.com).

Here is another example of me starting a game on underground, and voila: no walls are there: i also start to believe some of the issues i posted are not about network issues.

This screen was taken on underground, me attacking team, first stage of the game:

As you can see i can see through the wall, but can not run through it. As said: it is the first stage of this map, and the first objective has no tbeen blown yet. I can see all the enemys through the doors.

No clue if this is packet loss, i have no clue anymore. Since it happend during init of the game, i start to believe this specific issue is about something else. But nontheless, some other issues posted in this thread might still be related to packet loss.

Im a bit confused from your writings. I dont know what playing WET back in the day has to do with the current state of your inet connection. Inet connections are by no means a static thing and can vary in quality over time. From last October to July my ISP managed to have more partial and total disruptions of service than I noticed in total since I came online 20years ago. Fingers crossed for the full month without a failure so far.

Be it packet loss or not. I know some of these issues too.
A similar bug I got is that on the last stage of trainyard I didnt see the hole in the wall of the trainwreck and only a partial delivery point missing most of its exterior textures. From my understanding this should be able to be fixed from SDs side with some extended syncing code or TCP (if it would be actually a network thingy). But missing bullets due to your UDP traffic being jammed? No way.
