OW style skirmishes while waiting for a match?

(Press E) #1

I don’t like Overwatch much honestly, but one thing I like about it is that you’re actually able to mess around in maps while waiting for matchmaking. Now that CMM is here and it can take a while to find a match, why not include something similar?
It would help new players get a feel for the maps, as well as just being something better to do than staring at a blank screen for 10 minutes.

Is this something you’d like to see in dirty bomb?

What is OW style skirmish?

(Nail) #3

it’s like warmup

I often alt tab when the CMM is searching because you have nothing to do during the search, but they removed the little audio notification we had, so I must a look at the game every 30s, it’s quite a backstep.

maybe after launch…
the game isnt exactly the most optimized games out there right now…

and i run OW better than when i run dirty bomb, that alone means many things

considering how fast the game itself was, not only ingame but out of game to hop in and out of servers. this change is gonna take a while to get used to, and im honestly not thinking ill be able to get used to it. thank god the server browser is still around

well - I know that I could just search youtube for “Overwatch pre-game skirmish” but that way I may not find the exact stuff @STARRYSOCK is talking about.

Could someone post a vid here?

…While you’re waiting for matchmaking to find a server in OW, the game will place you in a random map with other people waiting to find a map. No objectives, no scores, basically like one of the ranked pre-games. As people find a map, they drop from the skirmish server, and new people searching for a match slowly join.

It’s just like a pregame to mess around in while you wait for matchmaking to find an actual match.

its basically running a game but its just playing around and not counted as progression

+1 for this. As it happens, there are 3 smaller maps that recently lost their gamemode

Lol, that could work actually. Imagine an infinite round of execution to warm up while you wait for a map xD

Not until balanceing and important stuff is done.

keep in mind that this can be done in 2 ways

1st server based, which cost money for SD and requires empty server reservation.
people will be moved into empty server while waiting for the number of people become 10 or 12 or 14 or 16. What sucks about this is that tis could become a limbo where people keep quitting and entering the server and makes it tiring to wait

2nd peer 2 peer based, hosted by player (no need money for this) but yknow, while its laggy for the skirmish, who cares about it since its just playing around.

another thing, id rather have the option to not to enter skirmish since i love my computer and want to let it live longer.

cmm already feels like a waste of resources and dev time.

Whether or not it should be a priority isn’t what I’m asking.

Please keep the discussion to whether or not it would be a good feature, and why.

True. But I mean, SD already has a lot of empty servers. And if that’s still not enough, a few more might very well be worth it to make the game more enjoyable.
Not sure why people would want to quit and reenter though.

Offline maps could work as well, but definitely with the option to disable them. Good for exploring the map when you’re new, or just practicing trickjumps. Maybe even add in a few target dummies as a sort of extra tutorial, lol
