Overwatch in Dirty Bomb: is this guy cheating? YES/NO

(ToonBE) #1

Well I was in a server and this guy “Chalkey” was cheating. He tried to hide it and fool us into being a good player (those ones are the worst).

Judge for yourself:

My verdict: aimbot. He ended up with 47-3 or something like that. I don’t have more footage because I only started recording at the very end of the map.

Why didn’t you record for more than a few seconds? I ran into my first cheater the other night, but he was spamming his cheat site in chat anyway so…

Good find and nice of you to report it. However its insufficient material imo. 1 instance of aimbot looking aim isnt quite enough as proof. On a good day, some people can get 100% natural aimbot aim, this is why the length of the material is important, to compare a players normal aim & game sense with the players best aim & game sense. For suspicion its enough but not for proof.

If you come across a cheater then record them and upload it as an unlisted video and send it to http://support.dirtybomb.nexon.net/hc/en-us (click Submit a Request located at the top right of the page).

I did this a couple days ago and Nexon support just got back with me. I don’t actually know if the guy was banned but I do assume he was based on the evidence and the response I got.

This is what I sent in:

I was in a server yesterday playing against a guy everyone thought was aimbotting named Syricz. Apparently, Lauren Scott was recording from the aimbotters perspective and put up a video about it.

Here is an SS from my side: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=433978641

Here is the video from Lauren spectating the guy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-O6D3bO-Vs and her twitter post about it https://twitter.com/TheyCallMePansy/status/593198024421146624

Thanks!

And this was the response I just got:

Hi there,

Thank you for submitting your player report. I have analyzed the video and have taken the appropriate actions against the accused player. We greatly appreciate the submission, and highly encourage you to continue to do so whenever you come across one. Thank you very much for keeping Dirty Bomb a clean playing environment!

Sincerely,

Sr. GM Cheezpuff

Cool snap.

As much as I hate cheaters(and I really do a LOT) I have to agree with the others that it’s not enough footage to be sure from just that one instance.

Even if he only had that clip, it is enough to convince me. Plus they can easily look up some statistics and stuff to just confirm it. It isn’t like video material alone is going to be used as a basis to ban hackers, even though I am 99.99% convinced from that short clip alone.

Also people come on, it is enough. Dude clearly snapped to two people within a fraction of a second.

The clip is incredibly suspect but I agree it’s probably not quite long enough for the GM’s to ban on that alone.

Looking at the stats as well is not always a perfect indicator. Sometimes we have cheaters that stand out like a sore-thumb in the accuracy data but also we’ve seen players that are proven hackers (via video or xigncode) that just have a comparable accuracy to other legit players.

I’m closing this particular thread, as we don’t want this type of thing turning into a public witch-hunt.

The best thing to do in this case is email Nexon at customersupport@nexon.net with some additional video evidence and we will take it from there.
We are working on improving out anti-cheat solutions to pick-up and prevent more hacks.

For the time being, please report specific hackers to Nexon at customersupport@nexon.net, ideally with some video evidence from spectator. From there we can do some investigation ourselves to verify the reports.

While we’re still Closed Beta, we can ban players we find hacking on servers and they’ll have a hard time getting back in. I believe over 50 hacking accounts have been suspended already.

Before we go open, we know we need to be much better at preventing hackers and have in-game reporting systems since players will be able to keep coming back.
