Overpowered? Whats your opinion?

(Dawnlight) #1

So I’ve added the ability through a c_var to allow cov-ops to use weapons of their disguised class.

A normal cov-op weapon can still be used, but while disguised so can any weapon that disguise could normally use. I have recently been debating the implications this may have upon gameplay, such as a cov op spawncamping with a panzer would be much more dangerous than someone who had to hide due to no uniform.

I have recently been thinking about changing this c_var to allow for:

0 - only cov op weaps
1 - use any light weap available per disguise
2 - use any weap available per disguise except panzer
4 - use any weap available per disguise (no restrictions)

Opinions on whether this will overpower cov-ops or not please let me know.

Is it not possible to let the cov-op grab the weapon but be unable to use it? Like giving him zero bullets? (note: this may require some client work so the weapon is selectable, even though it got no ammo)
This way the cov-op can cloak himself perfectly, but can’t wield weapons the class wasn’t made to?

He throw away a good weapon he can use to pickup one he can’t? I don’t see the point behind that all. I was speaking in terms of allowing him to use the weapon.

The other thing to keep in mind, is being able to pick up the weapon makes the disguise a LOT more effective. I would say that picking up heavy weapons would certainly be unbalancing, and even light weapons would be pretty annoying. However, the current covert is pretty underpowered, so it isn’t a completely terrible idea.

There some things you have to watch out for from a code point of view too:

  • How does further weapon switching work. For example, you take a soldiers uni and his MG. Later you see a pf on the ground. Can you pick that up ?
  • If you lose your disguise, does the weapon fall out of your hand, or can you keep using it ?
  • Do covert skill upgrades apply to other weapons ? (remember the old bug where covert skill wold carry over to the mg42 if you switched to soldier ?)

kamikazee’s suggestiong is also interesting. Rather than making him throw away his current weapon, I’d say that the ‘disguise weapon’ should just be on a new weaponbank. So if you have a sten, and you kill a soldier, you can pick up his PF, and weaponbank 8 (or whatever) will make it LOOK like you are carrying a PF, but you won’t be able to shoot. You can still switch back to weaponbank 3 to shoot your sten…

pernament disguise makes covert what he was bargained for : sneaky tacticts…
If you do this dont also forget to fix head skin … ( dont change it with disguise )

agree with the pick up but cant use tatic

i always run around with unsilenced pistol when in uni as its a lot harder to tell the luger and colt apart from the cov weapons

Well, a field ops with a pistol ain’t a common sight, so you could allways turn it as you want… :expressionless:

It’s just I don’t like a Cov Op shooting with weapons he wasn’t made for… Then I even prefer the etpub style class stealing.
(there, anyone could pick a limbo’d teammate’s class if you “steal his uniform”, doesn’t matter what class you are)

Another way would be to allow coverts to pick up any weapon, any time. But they are limited to one ammo clip (maybe 2) for non covert weapons. And/or the spread is increased (doubled?) when they use a non covert weapon. Heavy weapons should be handled seperatly (as you already pointed out above), maybe coupled with the heavy weapon skill: coverts can’t fire a PF etc. until they reach reached level 4 heavy weapons.

My goal was to allow the covert to use the weapon, even when popped out of uni, however, the check for picking up the weaps would require he be in uni, so he could not switch back to anything but cov ops weap until he regained a uni. Also, he would still be able to use the weap while out of uni as long as he had it currently picked up. I think with the cvar being changeable it would make things fair, as was aforementioned, the cov op class wasn’t exactly a power house to begin with…this might make them a bit more deadly.
