Having extensively played ET, Quake Wars and Brink I am very hopeful for this game. Nevertheless I am very concerned about the overall gameplay from a combat perspective. Where ET got it perfect, Quake Wars was close and Brink utterly failed was to have tight, responsive, deadly combat. To compete with modern shooters (Modern Warfare/Titanfall/Battlefield) the guns HAVE to really feel punchy, accurate… deadly. Even in ET it was helmet off then instant kill with a head shot and many of the guns were very very accurate. Despite the team based objectives, this game HAS to work most fundamentally as a shooter, otherwise just like Brink, it is going to crash and burn almost immediately.
Overall gameplay
So, what exactly are you saying is wrong with the game? Guns are not strong enough? Head shots are not effective enough?
I’m following smartIsland. Still E.T. had some spread with weapons, but nostalgia is stronger and the simple fact to hear a sound when i hit the ennemy encouraged me to keep on training. I didn’t check the settings of the game, is there such options available?
I don’t think DB weapons aren’t strong enough, but I think the headshots, for instance, should oneshot. Which is 40% the case currently. When i see myself playing single-burst with m4 and clearly see 3 or 4 bullets hitting opponent’s head and the guy is like “hay lmao” with 60hp ftw, and he takes you down from 300 feets with shotgun. There is definitely something wrong in this game, which is visually involving a bit of realism though, but not respecting it, or partially.
But i understand the spawn rythm, the game dynamic and strategy would be altered if we offer instant kill with headshots. The emphasis on team objectives would be displaced.
I’m quite a dick at aiming bodies because i’m not used to do so, but DB heads are tough and meanwhile, the ennemy shoots you in the body and kill you first because headshots is not effectiv for you, even though you sincerely killed the guy 3 times already with same ammo clip.
DB is punchy to me, no problem. Accurate, it seems to be. But the result of dueling never delivers the logic i’m expecting. Also the probability to kill fast from middle to long range while straffing like mad is nonsense (maybe that’s why TF2 avoided machinegun and rifles and chose shotguns instead). Even I sometimes feel surprised to kill someone in a situation i objectively did not have advantage at all, like “w-whut? Is he kill? how did it even…?” or “how did he not kill me??”.
All weapons in DB feel randomly effecient (like in brink), it’s never playing as i expect. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to push the differences deeper from a weapon to another? So players can adapt to opponents characters. You know, like a godass shotgun with only 2 shells in clip.
Regarding the hit sound question imposed, there is such option available in game under settings.
The fact that the game requires head shots means that it challenges skill more than reflexes. But no question about it, if you catch someone whilst using the element of surprise, even with body shots, you will be able to obtain a kill. Headshots are mainly only OHK with a sniper rifle or unless your using Red Eye or Arty’s natural gun and head shot a weakly armoured merc.
Shot gun range has been nerfed and I can attest to said fact.
And even sometimes I feel I die too quickly when fighting enemy combatants but all that means is 1. He was significantly better than you or 2. He was extremely lucky landing every bullet and/or headshot or 3. He gun is more suited the situation at hand(range). Plain and simple. There is no P2W so those are the only reasons for your death.
In any case, like I have said to others, please stick around in the game. There is definitely a steep learning curve and some of the players in game have been playing for over 2 years. Just keep practicing and in no time you will see incredible improvement in your gameplay and learn to love the game known as Dirty Bomb.
Good luck mate!
Hi,
Oh nice, i’ll enable this option =)
I do have both skill and reflexes i guess regarding other fps i do play. I just don’t play games involving body shots for a long time now. Except tf2 but it’s mainly due to shotguns supremacy.
I find it too bad concerning the OHK only for scopes. It’s already pretty hard to aim the heads in DB, so allowing ohk or 2hk for headshots would be rewarding. Just saying.
If you say so.
No, i’m not talking about P2W of course. And dying quickly is not a problem to me (playing counter-strike since v1.5 to css, i’m used to get raped all day long and accepted it, because its ballistic and weaponry react just as i’d expect). And it’s not so fast, actually it takes ages to kill or be killed in DB i’d say (i’m used to instadeath fps due to headshots emphasis). The thing is that smg’s, shotguns, heavy machineguns, rifles and pistols just play the same, to me. So felt Brink. And it killed it. The differences between weapons isn’t significant enough. One can kill you with pistol and smg from long range while straffing and taking fire. So why would i bother playing sniper rifle or k47 if other weapons can do the same?
I know DB does not fit for TF2-like weapons, but why not allowing some characters to slide on the ground, or wearing shield to protect teammates, jetpack, drones etc?
Brilliant Ideas Rex! But keep in mind, this is only closed beta. The best has yet to come! The current game in no way reflects the final product so all that you aspire can be annexed soon.
Yes, sure. It’s just that DB is the only game so far i’ve been involved in beta test for more than 1 year period. Is there, on the website, a log of updates/features coming out next?
Also can SD put polls on the site with idea of theirs (or players’) to implement in the game?
I know i’m not in the right forum category to ask such things, but it comes to my mind now.
