Outdoor lighting, how do I solve this problem?

(SteelRat) #1

I am using the wurzburg sky and ambient setting of 35 (although I would like to lower that to 20 or so) and outdoors my player models are all pitch dark (see screenshot). Indoors I don’t have this problem, there the models looks fine since I have lights there.

The question now is: Do I have to add lights all over the map to make the player models details visible or is there an easier trick?

Whoa, that looks wicked!

Do the player models brighten if you increase ambience?

Woah mate, DON’T EVER USE AMBIENT
It’s evil. And when I say evil, I mean REALLY evil…
Your screenshots doesn’t look like you’ve got any sunlight or skylight in your sky shader, did you use the one provided by SD or did you make your own?
Kick that ambient stuff from your worldspawn and make sure you’re using a working sky shader, that should solve your problem.
If I remember correctly textures/skies/sd_wurzburgsky was the correct one.

What version of Q3Map2 are you using to compile the map?

(SteelRat) #5

2.5.11 ydnar, and yes I use the SD shader for wurzburg.
I reapplied the shader just to make sure, weird thing is that the light on players are ok on distance (about 512 units) but when you walk close up they look like above?

UPDATE: I got it to work now and I modified the wurzburg shader a bit to get the light as I wanted it.
