Orly or Typo?

As far as I know its active all the time or how else would you be able to slide around all over the place.
Sliding is done by sprinting and then holding down crouch. From what I have read, SMART is used for interacting with objects, and no so much movement in general - run at something and look up, it climbs it, look down, it slides under it, etc. If it was active all the time, how would the game calculate when you want to do things, meaning, If I’m running at a railing holding down the smart button, if it is active all the time, then if I look down to early, I’m just gonna slide early and not make it under the railing. But the whole purpose of smart is so you don’t have to worry about timing, so I think you can look down, and then it will slide you under when the time is right. For doing general movement, and not interacting with objects, I think you need to use manual controls. Trickjumping is still plenty possible. Yes, you could use SMART to automatically climb the wall, or you could do it manually and wall-hop the adjacent wall, jump onto the wall you want to climb and then boost yourself up, or just jump at the wall first and then climb, taking less time to climb it.

[QUOTE= trickjumping is dead and pointless, SD didn’t invest all that time and money into creating SMART for nothing, How is doing the jumps manually going to be better?[/QUOTE] hence the on off option id like to be able to have alittle more control over smart and scripting my commands to a key combo like +look +a +smart key would activate wall dash and so on i like to have flexibility plus it opens up more windows for different kinds of tricks i dont really want to explain what types. “to bad sd dev doesnt read the stuff im posting:(”

SMART is an aid meant to make navigation easier. However, some moves can be performed faster manually - you just have to get the timing right.

Trick-jumping is here to stay

When you say some jumps can be performed faster manually. Could you put a figure/percentage on the amount of jumps/types of jumps that can be performed better manully.

Are we talking 20% of the jumps in Brink or is it more closer to 40-50% or 70-80%.

Be good if you could clear it up.

(Exedore) #65

It’s the wrong way to think about it. They’re all faster if done manually, but the risk is if you mess them up you fall or are brought to a stop.

How do you slide manually? Sprint+ crouch?

Amazing how this thread already derailed, didnt you guy read the bazzilion threads/press stuff about the trickjump and smart and whatever?

When I saw this thread I was like wtf? are we in the matrix? or didnt ppl read nothing about smart or already forgot? Its like in the EA forum where you can see the same kind of thread being opened 3 times everyday…

To stay ontopic, being delayed is actually a good thing for the game, but they’ll have to work hard to keep the hype many of you had…

And yeah I pretty much agree with jamieson about pc gaming going down the hill more and more nowaday…

Go SD go, delay it and make it non-steam only  you’ll regain a customer!

Peace

You know what Apples your one of the few people around here who keep me sane, your sig always gives me a good laugh to.

Yeah so if you want it turned “Off” just don’t hold down the button, you can still manually do the moves by using combinations of crouching and jumping and etc…

(Qhullu) #70

yea, i want it to be as good as it can be so delay it as much as you want, ET doesn’t get old so i’m covered when it comes to online fps games.

about Steam, i’m assuming you can’t use a standalone server browser like Game Scanner with proper custom filtering in Steam games. so how in-depth are the filtering options in the Steam server browser (countries/mods/server settings/etc)?

agreed.

Demons souls is Console only, and its steep learning curve and difficulty is one of it main drawing points.

At the very end of this http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6265793/ he tells the release date :frowning:
I would rather see them take there time on Brink and do a good job. I will still buy the game when it comes out. QQ

(zXSwordXz) #73

I had a feeling this is going to happen. Maybe they just want to take their time to polish it up more or the have some more ideas for the game that will take longer. Plus, a lot of game is coming out this fall that will take away potential buyer from this game. So the playing it safe???

(Maawdawg) #74

Dodging COD, Medal of Honor, and Halo in the fall just moves you into a window with games like Gears 3, Killzone 3, Bulletstorm, and Deus Ex early next year. There is no time of year to release a game without stiff competition in the shooter market. I am sure that is a concern, but if that is the main reason for the delay it makes no sense to me because it just means jumping from the pot into the fire.

It could be that Bethesda doesn’t want to try to market Fallout: New Vegas and Brink at the same time, in the same launch window. It could be that they just don’t feel the game will be complete by the fall. Unless we get some kind of actual explanation all we can do is speculate on reasons it may be.

I am just really disappointed that the one game I have been counting down to this year is off the table for now, regardless of the reason behind it.

(tokamak) #75

Righ now would be a great time.
