Opinions on the future of Dirty Bomb

I’ve come to love this game, as many others do aswell. It’s part of my daily routine and I’ve been playing it now for about a year and a half and haven’t gotten bored of it since the very beginning depsite all of my favourite Dirty Bomb Youtubers quitting and some even going as far to criticise the game. However, it’s undeniable that the player base has greatly reduced in size (SOURCE: http://steamcharts.com/app/333930). As the statistics show we can see that the community has plateaued at a peak average of approximately 3000 players a day. I feel that if Splash Damage have another year like last year with minimal content then the playerbase may plummet further which of course is a hindrance to the game.

So for future releases what speed would you guys think would be a reasonable time for new content to be released? I personally feel that new content should be released about every 3-4 months as it gives new and old players a constant incentive to keep playing. As the current lack of content lost the community a vast majority of veteran players. To be honest, even though Dockyard does seem like a map which was created with thought, passion and precision it still feels like it isn’t enough to suffice for the preceding years that came with little content. As Shinywindow said, “Dockyard can be seen as a symbol of hope.” Now all Dirty Bomb needs to do is get their shit together and keep releasing content at a consistent rate. If they fail to provide players with the efficient content they desire then this year could be the downfall of Dirty Bomb, in my opinion.

The next question is: when is Dirty Bomb finally going to come out of open beta? It has been in beta for a few years now and I feel as though once Dirty Bomb finally comes out of beta the transition will give Splash Damage the opportunity to spend their funds on advertising which will be crucial in order to boost the player base and hopefully allows it to stabilise at a higher daily player peak as the game is in urgent need of players. Perhaps once they establish a higher player peak it will finally lead to a good competitive scene for Dirty Bomb players. Maybe one day if any of this happens then perhaps it will bring back the veterans and players that left the game.

Anyways these are just my thoughts that I wanted to share with you. Feel free to share your own ideas and lets start thinking optimistically.

DB is a sinking ship, until SD does something.

If it does sinks, oh well, was fun while it lasted.
All good thing must come to an end. Life goes on.

Pretty sure the competitive side of the game won’t see a comeback until SD implements at least some of the changes that were basically universally agreed upon by competitive players like 2-3 years ago even if the game started to grow a little casually. A lot of people gave comp DB a try because they heard the devs were listening and the game had potential, but when it came time to actually make changes, people were either ignored or given idiotic excuses like not changing how aimpunch works because people won’t know they’re taking dmg without it bouncing your crosshair around.

Waiting for the new player experience to actually teach new players something, because I’m consistently meeting players who’re hundreds of hours in who still don’t know the basics of how this game plays.

This carries into ranked, where players have no idea about how the game actually plays, how to play in a 5v5 setting with friendly fire, or how to abuse spawn times.

I’m cautiously optimistic, but I’m not investing any real energy right now.

I love the game and keep coming back to it. It is always good when you get a good team with lots of communication. Far too many people don’t join chat or don’t know how to use push-to-talk. Engagement creates community in game. Hope it gets some growth and some Twitch or Mixer exposure to drive new players to the game. Low bar of entry.

I wouldn’t say the game is dying just yet, they’re on a good streak I’d say recently despite problems. While slow, they have been releasing new content over the past few months which is more than we can say previously. Plus we have a pretty dedicated fanbase, like how often have we read “DB is my favorite FPS of all time” in these posts? With the new skin and new map leaks and a hopefully improved ranked system for season 3, I finally have something to play for and look forward to in-game. I’ve said it about 19 times and I’ll say it again, add about 10 more skins in cases to the game and I’m happily hooked exclusively on DV for the next month or more. SD please listen, you already have amazing fan made skins, literally just ask to use them.
