Is Arty bad?

Opinion on Arty
Right now he’s just a sitting duck between Skyhammer and Kira.
He has the same merc properties skyhammer has and the ammo ability is common for them.
Kira and Arty also have the main weapons available (BR-16, G3 thing and AUG thing), and, on top of that, the laser beam is definitely more efficient on killing enemies purposes. Artillery strikes are just slightly better at destroying the EV.
So, yes, he does lack a bit of HUMPFFF right now.
Arty needs some more lenient targeting for his strikes. Targeting the EV directly works sometimes, sometimes it doesn’t. And in places like Underground where Kira and Skyhammer can get their strikes to hit, Arty can’t target some of those same places due to the glass in the ceiling.
Also, Kira probably needs a nerf to some portion of her laser, whether it be the CD or the duration.
I think arty just needs more variety in guns… or make him a little more tanky or somethin.
He has good health and access to the highest damaging guns in the whole game, the main thing that makes him an unpopular choice is the ability that is a bit too weak compared to how much effort it takes to use, and obviously everyone isn’t a fan of semi-auto or burst guns.
Idk, I personally think he isn’t that good, and I happen to just only get gold, lead, cobalt, iron, silver loadouts from him…none of that good stuff for other mercs I ACTUALLY play…
He is fine.
Problem is he is fairly plain compared to the alternatives.
He is no wisecracking scotsman whose oneliner makes you chuckle everytime you here them, like Skyhammer. And he is no anime pixie dream girl wishfullfilment like Kira. That alone puts people off and makes them question his whole kit, which is indeed a bit harder to use than average. However I find it interesting that people only complain about the weapons in conjunction with Arty appearantly the BR-16, Stark and Dreiss are fine when they are in Fraggers, Skyhammers and Kiras hands, so it can’t be the weapons.
Same goes for his Artillery it puts in the work and has a nice cross between cooldown and damage but it isn’t neither a cool row of explosions that plasters half a map and takes out the EV in one go nor a fricking sky lazer that melts people.
People go into Arty like this “who is this guy looks kinda meeh” and keep that attitude “his weapons are meeh” lets check the abilities " urghs hard to aim, and it looks meeh"
arty is kinda weak… sure the ability has a low cooldown but the AOE and everything else makes him kinda moot to be used…
I actually preferred Arty over the other ammo mercs due to the Dreiss-AR. Not anymore though, because I got a silver Kira with Dreiss-AR from one case and I can’t find a reason to play Arty instead of her anymore.
I think he’s alright, However his Arty Strike (Or whatever it’s called) is kind of weak.
I used arty for a whole day (2 days back) and i rarely got a instant kill with 1 airstrike.
i like the recharge time for it thou.
Skyhammer wrecks EVs better, and Kira wrecks mercs better. I used to love playing Arty but then I learnt how to play the other two and then he fell into a horrible useless state.
I really do hope arty gets a rework. In comparison to Kira and Skyhammer, they simply are both better alternatives. Although he isn’t all too bad, I managed to grab a kill or two with his artillery, but that’s only if I’m lucky.
Arty at the moment is just a joke and I’ll give a little list as to why
- Many people picked him over Skyhammer due to the Dreiss, which has been getting hit by the nerf bat every so often, making the BR-16/Striker AR a better choice in most instances.
- Even if someone enjoyed Arty due to his Dreiss, Kira has it aswell.
- His ability having better range is questionable since there tends to be a lot of obstructing objects around a map,
- I’ve been told he’s great if a Vasilli tosses a heartbeat sensor to spot people for him, but that can be said about anyone.
- 2 charge with a 30 second cooldown each doesn’t sound as enough charges or fast enough of cooldown speed to compare to the amount of damage Skyhammer’s airstrike or Kira’s laser can do for the price of a minute.
- Skyhammer offer’s tons of area coverage with a strike, Kira offers an accurate, constant beam that kills enemies almost instantly that can be controlled, there is no debate that both of these are worth the one minute wait after each use, and they both can down an EV instantly, or in seconds, while Arty’s strikes would need about 4-5 shots to take it down.

I made a thread on an idea of changing it slightly if anyone is interested, making it fill a cross between both Kira and Skyhammer’s roles
At the least he needs some kind of zoom when designating a target because any parallel surface at long range is just a speck of pixels and precise positioning in the heat of the moment impossible.
I’ve been using him for 3 days, just 'cos. He can do some good work with plenty of elevation and multiple sight lines, otherwise his ability is just so so.
if you pull out arty designator with ‘4’ instead of ‘q’ you can zoom in with RMB
I end up getting “use arty” missions and kinda sighing to myself. He isn’t terrible, but his ability is not great most of the time. For example: it is great for taking out EV - it is very safe and triggerable from long range. Also, on a map like 3rd stage chapel, if you are on offense you can damage an entire defending spawn wave with good timing and positioning. Most of the time however, your artillary strikes do sub par damage vs mercs and it is hard to get kills with them. They also are hard to trigger due to terrible laser/terrain interactions.
Overall, his weapon selection is as strong as sky hammers, depending on personal preferences between auto and burst. I really prefer ammo packs to Kira’s ammo station.
Fetching Seahorse. You only need to have him in the squad in those missions. No need to play him if you don’t want to.
Redcap. Some corrections.
- The Better range argument is based on the fact, that as long as he can see his target or the wall directly behind it, he can hit it (Kira gets the same advantage). Skyhammer is bound by the ark of his nade. No matter what he sees (forcing him to get closer).
- Arty’s cooldown is 20 sec. not 30.
- Kira needs quite some time to kill a EV (full laser duration + ability cooldown (30+ sec) + full laser duration).
- Arty needs 2 Strikes to kill a EV.Since it is very hard to pull 2 perfects off. I give you 3 (which is still faster than Kira). But 4-5 means that you botched 1-2 completly which shouldn’t be part of the argument. Unless you want factor in Skyhammer or Kira missing their shots, which would punish them even more.
They should change his skill to be a call down, he pulls out a pad to target a specific place on the map for a targeted air bombardment that lasts 3 seconds on that area ( after looking at an aerial view of the map). Using it while inside scans the map temporarily, marking players that are currently moving; like vasillis heartbeat sensor, but less versatile, as arty has to be standing still to keep the scan going.
