Operative usefulness?

(Necro-) #1

first off i love the operative, however i’m kind of conflicted on it’s use (only rank 2 atm)

but i’ve yet to really find the operative’s niche.

operative objectives seem rare. and it’s abilities like the homing beacon - atleast to me seems pretty worthless considering by the time you “mark” a target, it’s either dead, your dead or both.

so i guess my question is, has anyone been able to come up with what an operative is supposed to do.

now before people start flaming me, i do NOT hate brink infact i love it:stroggbanana:

I’ve been playing operative pretty much exclusively, and what i’ve found he excells at is defending escout objectives and choke points with caltrop nades, they’re extremely effecive. Also hacking friendly turrets is great if you are coordinated with a friendly engy. Also, doing comms hacks every time it’s available will be invaluable once people get more accustomed to the game and are looking at their radar more. Sticky bombs are useful distractions as they are pretty easy to hit enemies with and if you get someone alone with it they’re almost certainly going down.

(trollface) #3

Spot other ops, assist friendly engineers and sabotage enemy engineers. It looks like a useful class once people start using more avanced tactics than just bullrushing eachother.

Operative suicide bombing works awesome too, try disguise yourself and throw grenade in the middle of enemy crowd lol, Caltrap nades is the pain but I havn’t try that one perk where you actually do the real suicide bombing when you incapacitated.

I think The Operative are the perfect class for trolling.

Wait until you can comms hack and hack enemy turrets.

Then the fun really begins…

Aside from the obvious objectives they get, they’re useful distractions. Hacking enemy turrets, suicide bombing a crowd, things like that. If we’re defending a point though I would much rather have any other class and their buffs and support stuff with me than an operative. Caltrops are nice, but a level 3 turret and mines or Molotov can be more useful, not to mention a medic keeping all of us healed.

So far I see operatives like bush wookies in battlefield. They serve some kinda purpose, and as long as there’s not too many of them then they’re fine. But when there’s 4-5 people all trying to play with disguises when we need soldiers to blow open a door it gets a little annoying.

(Necro-) #7

yea hacking turrets seemed ideal but don’t have it yet, my biggest annoyance is the homing beacon it’s so…useless in my opinion mainly cause the time you need to target is far too long to be useful.

(ThePilgrim101) #8

Homing Beacon is incredibly useful if you’re a rushing Operative. Stay in the middle of your team and start spotting left and right, typically when the enemy is all grouped up.

I imagine the EMP grenade will be the go to thing for the operative.

(deusex2) #10

I’ve played Global Agenda and after watching class videos I had the impression that operative is anti-engineer. Than again, I’m only lowly European peasant, who does not deserves to start playing at the same time with US players. So I’m still waiting for the release, instead of playing.

(Necro-) #11

well the homing is good as an ability the problem is, it takes so long to show up by the time it does the enemy has seen you usually ;p

(Don'tBrinkandDrive) #12

I bought the comms hack ability for Operative and it helps slightly. It makes it more useful for knowing wher eto go to get around the enemy. I don’t mind the class, and my least favorite is Medic. I have played the others fairly the same amount. Also for the disguise is useful for running past enemy bots and starting a hack objective.

(hamstein) #13

When disguised you can use your homing ability, crosshair is invisible so keep them in the middle of the screen. What I is I highlight important people, once my team opens fire I wait a few seconds before doing so myself.

(Necro-) #14

ah cool, didn’t know you could home while disguised.

(spire8989) #15

I play Operative for my team, I’m currently rank 4 and level 17.

It’s pretty easy to play, but you really need to get your parkour play down to a T - and I can’t imagine not playing light if you’re going to play one.

Use the bottom right SMG (I forget the name) and make sure to get the radar hack and turret hack. Between hacking turrets, disguising as enemies, and even controlling the other teams turrets to mow them down - I’ve never had more fun.

I’m eagerly awaiting the start of Brink tournaments. I’ll be the operative that’s destroying everybody.

Ruining other people’s day is the best, right?

I think so :oppressor:

finally getting comm hack it’s been great since then, however i cant find a use for sticky bomb’s i’ve only had them go off like once, the other times i either miss or it’s defused.
