Operative UAV Ability

(PlumbyK) #1

I am just about to get to rank 5 on my character and I wasn’t sure if it was worth it. Just so you know I do play as the operative a lot. Also is it allowed in competitive play?

(Breo) #2

I want my coin back coz you can’t fly up

There were some enemies at a balcony and I couldn’t get them lol :frowning:

I have been able to kill multiple enemy as many as four people at once clustered around a choke point with the UAV. I had this argument with some friends, but feel UAV is effective and more useful than something like Sticky Bomb. You can only map 3 abilities, so I discarded Sticky and chose UAV, EMP, and Caltrops. All very disruptive and help serve what I believe is the Operative’s primary role: Disruption and Diversionary Tactics. I believe because Sticky can be removed, and it rarely kills when it goes off, I feel its not as powerful ultimately as compared to UAV, imo. But that’s just me.

the Sticky is more useful as a trap and “warning” than anything. Drop it right on top of an objective or in a choke point and you’ll almost always kill someone with it, if not, you’ll be able to make your way back to them in time to finish them off.

so once it falls to the ground it may as well be a radio controlled car? like the RC-XD in Black Ops? hmmm

If the object is low enough the UAV will fly up it. Knowing this there are some points with a little manuvering where you can get it up onto higher levels. I almost prefer the sticky because it is more immediate whereas the UAV you are more removed and I’ve had plenty of enemies shoot mine down before I can get close enough to do any damage. Like most other abilities in this game it is effective in the right situation.

Rofl what competitive play?

(Hot-Wire) #8

UAV serves as several things.

  1. First person control recon You can see enemies before going into areas yourself.
  2. Scanner. Place the UAV in an area and it serves just like the coms hack. Everything that passes through near your UAV is revealed on the map.
  3. Mobile bomb. Fly it into enemies and detonate.

Also UAVs can climb ledges. Just treat them like if you were using your normal character.

Not sure about comp play but I say definitely get it. I don’t fly it much but it’s invaluable when placed (its range is a little bit too good imo)

It expires when you die so maybe not for every operative but essential for the team

IMO this is actually the only all around useful piece to the UAV. Sure you can get some kills and spy out some areas while you control it, but while doing this you could have been running and gunning which would probably be much more useful to your team (IMO). The other functions besides the radar one also tend to be much more situational while the radar piece is useful almost any time anywhere.

For me Caltrops and EMP are must haves so that means you’re going to sack Sticky for the UAV. That’s the option you have to weigh. For me it’s a very tough choice, but I think I’m leaning towards the sticky. It’s more personal preference than anything else. I don’t think anyone would say the UAV skill makes or breaks your character. Maybe other people feel differently though.

UAV is staying where it is for my Op  sticky or emp for me. I’m favouring sticky atm, then a bot escort map comes along and I feel useless :frowning:

(nephandys) #12

I just can’t live without the “security alarm” features of that caltrop nade. In and of itself that serves to guard an entire area and lets me know when I have to haul ass over there to get rid of some enemies.

I couldn’t even consider losing EMP. It comes in handy so much. For example, on HE charges even if you don’t manage to get them disarmed due to your EMP delay you can still run out their clock leaving them less time for future objectives. Not supporting this strategy necessarily but even if you serve as a repeated EMP suicide bomber you’re running out the clock and respawning with a fresh EMP rdy to go. Obviously as you mentioned with bot escort it’s definitely handy.

Because of this thread late last nite/early this morning I switched out my StickyBomb for the UAV. Can’t say I’ve totally explored the uses of the UAV yet but I do think it will be something more useful than the StickyBomb for me. The StickyBomb I just never quite got the hang of. We will see.

(Kurushi) #14

I could never replace caltrops

(BROTOX) #15

Maybe if the UAV had a little pea shooter attached I would consider it more.

(R_Shackelford) #16

Tranq dart that makes the target’s vision blurry and maybe slows them down a bit, with a slow rate of fire (or very limited ammo, like three shots), would be nice.

I already enjoy the UAV though. I love that it doesn’t have a cool-down. You can just keep sending one after another to clear a room.

(wolfnemesis75) #17

Yup, no cool-down is a huge plus for the UAV. And you can send it into a choke point from the safety of a secure locations and blow people up, many at once if you are savvy. Also you can keep sending it behind enemy if you’re even more crafty. I don’t see how Sticky Bomb is better at all.

Hot Tip: If you’re Security on Aquarium, head outside via the Enemy Command post and crouch down behind a barrier or near the boat, or to the far right near the exit so you are well concealed. Send out UAV over and over as few will think to look for you there. Keep at it until the other team comes looking for you. This may allow your team mates a chance to slip the Agent out the front door past the choke.

Why stop at that? Make them horse tranquilizers. I want my guys falling flat at an instant, drooling.

Or make it work with homing beacon.
