Open GL 3.1

(Xirvus.rei) #1

So it appears that the reason why BRINK was crashing at the start is because my card does not support OpenGL 3.1 (thanks to the updated crashlog that now loads when BRINK crashes).

Is there any way for me to play BRINK besides upgrading my graphics card? That’s not an option, because I plan on upgrading to a better PC at the end of this year, but would prefer to play BRINK now.

I did a search and found some beta drivers mentioning adding OpenGL 3.1 support to 7950 GT - so this suggests its more a software limitation than a hardware one?

Any suggestions?
Any other 7950 GT users here?

Thanks.

7xxx series don’t supporting opengl 3.x+.
Only 2.x.

I’m sorry the game doesn’t work for you. But you kinda could have seen it coming.

As the above poster said, officially the 7xxx series doesn’t support openGL 3.x. And if there are any unofficial ways of circumventing this constraint the results would probably be buggy and unstable. So you’re either going to have to upgrade now or practice patients. (Or buy a cheap graphics card to hold you over until the end of the year.)

who here remembers the interview where sd said they were confident older hardware (beneath minimum requirements) would still be enough for brink?

Well there was always an absolute cut off point. No point in trying to run this on my old geforce 2.

Don’t forget the 8000 series is getting on for 5 years old now…
