Open Beta Incoming

(Ardez1) #1

So it was just announced in the “Dishing the Dirty” video that Open Beta is kicking off next month(End of the video).

What do you think needs to be done before the game hits that point? What do you think the dev priorities should be so that DB can be shown in it’s best light to the mass audience of players?

Also, what do you think might turn the most people away from DB on Open Beta? Besides skill ceiling.

I though the would release all the known mercs before hitting open beta. Oh well…

Hopefully they will do it after they fixed some huge problems with the servers. Those really hurt the in game experience and they may loose a lot of players due to it.

(umberInlet) #3

@Eox They released so many keys, so I’m not surprised.More testers means more bug fixes and balancing, yes, but also more cash as well, right?

(Eox) #4

Yup. Almost certainly more cash (there’s still an very little probability that no new player decide to not buy anyting after all, duh… But I am doing probability maths, this is evil, and no I am not sorry !).

(DomMafia) #5

Dirtybomb youtube account, I’m assuming MissMurder, posted that there will be 2 new mercs in the next merc release.

  • Lack of maps
  • No lack of cheaters
  • All players are mixed-up, so the new ones will be steamrolled often by tough luck
  • Performance of the game even on quite well-equipped pc’s, even more a problem on “minimum requirement”-pc’s (even if there are people stating 30fps are smooth, hahhah)
  • Good Introduction to former "etplayer"s ;-). Not even a “manual to read”, nor some kind of real first-grader’s training for today’s kiddies.
  • Keybindings and values ingame/inmenu still differ in places, don’t think most will notice the plus of options ingame
  • Mentioning the last, probably missing some setup-guide for the bindings/settings
  • And the last instant-in-mind while brainstorming… Sorry, even if someone called you for a return of investment… 10 Eur for a char??? Kidding, right? Kids nowadays generously spend 2Eur5, or even 5Eur2, but not 10Eur*1. They know maths, you know?

Normally I’d be billing the consulting, but I kinda love the game. So if it helps, giving birth to it, I’m glad to brainstorm the obvious.

Way too soon, they need to sort out at least the anti-cheat situation before going open beta.

(DutchLM) #8

Next month already? Don’t have a long of time to feel special about being in closed beta then :frowning:

They said in a live stream that more would be given out in the future as it is considered their event reward. I assume like an anniversary or something.

In my opinion It’s too fast to create open beta.

  • Where all these people will play? First we need ability to host own servers
  • There are no real anti-cheat, no in-game reports etc.
  • Lack of maps
  • Too expensive mercs, people will say “P2W, DON’T INSTALL THIS CRAP”
  • Performance issues

(coruscate) #14
  • The performance seems to be pretty down, there are a few threads on here helping you out, if u got the ram for it.
  • “New” Mercs i want to hold the whole merc set in hand. Stoker that lovely psycho!
  • These T-Shirts will be a must have. since “Dont be a d*ck” is pretty much something i would wear anytime!

Also, what do you think might turn the most people away from DB on Open Beta? Besides skill ceiling.[/quote]
-Steep learning curve, the ignorance and lack of patience of the avg. player
-It’s not Call of Duty
-It’s not CS:GO
-It’s not TF2
-Some actual flaws, like the server/server browser issues and in-game bugs
-Loadout card system/monetization plan
-Poor performance, lack of optimization, and 2 frames per second menus for G-SYNC users

(TstarKnight) #16

those games you just named are complete crap especially COD its the most basic cookie cutter FPS every year they just reskin the game and call it brand new

(APRenpsy) #17

I’m gotten be very honest here, it is way too early… As of right now the game lacks many features you would find in a multi-player game. Release the game into Open Beta would in my opinion kill it.

Things that need to be added/fixed before Open Beta

  • Better Anti-Cheat [Imagine the influx of even more cheaters once you go into Open Beta]
  • Ability to Report In-Game [Not everyone has a computer with recording abilities]
  • Lack of Maps [The several of the ones that do exist still need balancing]
  • Cost of Mercs [Easy to fix IMO, just add a x3 xp/credits daily single win bonus, not a mission.]
  • Server Fixes [Joining a “full” ghost server is still a problem]
  • More Modes [Objective and Stopwatch are basically the same thing when you think about it]
  • Need more Max Level Servers [To avoid mixing new players with veteran players, seriously stop scaring our new players away people!]
  • Revamped Tutorial [There is no mention of the movement system in place]
  • Larger Tip Texts [Seriously make those tips freaking POP!]
  • Cash Prices [Lower them by at least half if you don’t want to scare new players into thinking it is a pay to win game. Some of these guys wouldn’t even bother to do the research.]
  • Loadout System [I’m cool with you keeping the cards, but we really need more options, how about being able to rename/title our favorite cards for starters.]
  • Bing-Bing [People like to look cool, make them look cool.]

Just my thoughts feel free to expand or disagree if you will

(triteTongs) #18

Agreed.
But the most important points are:
Matchmaking, anticheat, and real tutorials. Those are the ESSENTIALS at the moment.

Lots of new people still don’t know how to play the game. It’s a SERIOUS problem.
Coming from a personal standpoint… I won’t play on a team that has ALL new players (Especially if I have a “win” daily bonus to do). I’ll stack it with at least one other person that knows what they are doing.

I can’t handle people not understanding the barebone basics. (Repair an EV, Escort the EV, Repair the barricade, Destroy an EV, Planting and diffusing the bomb as fletcher/proxy/bushwacker, how to throw ammo, how to revive).

A better tutorial is a must.

With more “max level” servers, you are just prolonging the underlying issue.

I just played the tutorial and damn it is good. If new players would listen to what he says everyone would have a pleasant trip!
the movement is pretty advanced you cant really cover that up easily.

(watsyurdeal) #20

I would say that the smartest thing they can do is…

  1. Try to optimize the game as much as possible

  2. Work on the tutorial a bit more, add Proxy in there and let her be one of the first mercs people get

  3. I’d recommend also dropping the price of mercs in store, something like 7.50 or 6.50 is a lot more resonable.

  4. Add a way to try out mercs with credits, so new players can try a Merc, see if they like it, then spend cash on it.

  5. If Dome is finished, add that map in the rotation cause it’s actually one of the better maps imo
