online community

My two cents on it is that both CTF and Class Specific Objectives are still objective based. The thought process is very similar and it all comes down to how the Team plays together to achieve these goals.

Class Specific Objective - every class play a unique roll to the team, and most objectives can only be completed by certain classes, so teamwork is crucial.

CTF - everybody is exactly the same, with the single goal being capture the enemy flag while defending your own. Lone wolf tactics can net you a win in this case.

Granted, they both involve “objective(s),” but trying to justify them as basically the same thing, is like saying a bicycle is the same as a motorcycle.

I hate that everything is compared to Halo and Modern Warfare but there is always a waterline, and those two games have set it.

Perhaps on console they have, But a majority of the fanbase for SD games are PC. Afterall, SD is a PC company. Brink gets compared, almost exclusively, to ET and QW (SD’s previous games) with Halo and MW rarely even talked about.

As I stated, I think this game will have a ‘slow’ start but as word of mouth grows so will the community online.
Also, I think this is more of a console concern.

Multiple game modes would be nice and it doesn’t hurt. I favor different game modes under different formats, but I fear it might be too much for Brinks xp unlock system. There are always mods for that kind of stuff in the future, but objective mode rarely gets old.

H0RSE… CTF and Class Specific Objectives are still quite similar. If you have ever played Team Fortress Classic of Team Fortress 2 you could compare it to that. There is still difference between the two that cannot parallel but the ‘idea’ is still the same. I was stating that per the requests of having CTF put into the game. In a way, it already is, You could have multiple soldiers or heavy weapons going after a gate or infiltrators going after specific intel to gain leverage in the match. The same could be said with CTF or Command Point Objective modes, A heavy weapons or soldier could handle a heavy flow area while an engineer or medium to light infantry ( medic, scouts, infiltrators, spies ) could keep to the back routes for pop shots and calling out enemy locations.

The fact is, is that it is still objective based, whether team SPECIFIC, or player SPECIFIC does not wholly matter since your ultimate goal is the same. To win collectively.

I understand that Splash Damage has been primarily PC oriented and this is a venture for them. I come from playing both PC exclusive titles and Console titles. With that said, I had not heard anything about this game on either spectrum until just recently. They hype might be greater on the PC side but it is still lagging behind from a commercial aspect. That is why I believe the online community numbers will be slow at start but gain a greater momentum later on.

Also, the only reason I pointed the finger at Halo and Modern Warfare was because the original poster asked this:

Please note, that I am just trying to explain myself better and this is not an attack toward you in any way.

I can see a large PC community and some strong recognition throughout forums like FacePunch if its offered over steam.
As for console, its going to have to prove itself like BFBC2 did to mw2.

I see the difference being SD has made online multiplayer PC games and their fans love the concept, online multiplayer (not 2 person splitscreen coop) on consoles has not been embraced as much. Actually, of all the people I know with consoles only 2 or 3 play online with any game, they enjoy the SP aspect, the younger ones go online only to get cheat codes and then on their (or parents) PCs.
All Bethesda has to do is put the cinematic trailer on Spike TV a couple times a day a couple months before release and it’ll be huge, imo.

You should look at the CFT in Quake Live, It doesn’t have classes to make it diverse but each powercup gives each player a unique ability almost like a Class.

Scout powerup = increased movement speed, silent footsteps, can’t be damaged by own fire which allows you to dor rocket jumps without hurting yourself so you can go to high places. Very useful for flag running.

Armor Regen powrup, speaks for itself really, Your armor constantly regenerates allowing you to draw out fights, good all round powerup, specially for defending.

Doubler powerup, increases the damage your weapons do, ideal for attacking.

Guard powerup, reduces the amount of damage you take, ideal for defending.

The point is that CFT isn’t just mindless run and gun where there are no differences, the tactics you employ and the powerups you select have an effect on the game. Because you have to Attack and defend as a team at the same time controlling the arena and area dominance is hugely important. In that regard CFT is more tactical than traditional objectives where only 1 team attacks or defends.

Its not going to be in Brink but people should not dismiss it as simple or pointless, specially if you have never played or experienced it.

In my opinion it’s best to not hype a game too much. The titles I’ve enjoyed the most I didn’t even know of until after thier releases. If a friend talks about a game and he hypes it a lot and then he ends up telling me it’s still to be released then I myself would think he’s some kind of super fanboy that brings up all the good stuff about it just like a commercial. Things are never as good as they make them sound in commercials. I’d say wait for release or just before it then start advertising with something that brings attention to it but not really shows anything good about the game. Probably just something like the face with blood cinematic that they already have. That will make people want to check it out themselves and if the game is to come in a week or two or are already out the chances of them buying it will be a lot better than “within a year, perhaps”.

im still hope Brink will become “ETQW with polishing/extensions of same ideas”, not something twisted, thats appear on my mind, after reading numerous Brink reviews.

p.s.
topicstarter:
its attempt to discover SD/ZM prognosis for distribution ?
or just [cheap]attempt to promote [mythical]consoles community ?
