online community

What sized online community do you guys think Brink will have in comparison to other online games for consoles?
What sized online community do you guys think Brink will have in comparison to other online games for consoles?
I say a descent number, but not all that high:

It is a new IP
there are no DM, CTF, TDM gamemodes
people will complain sniping and knives are “nerfed”
SD is known for PC games
it’s not MW2 or Halo

On PC, it will have a majority of the ET and QW players migrating over, and will most likely have a much bigger fanbase.

(Reanimator) #3

No capture the flag? :frowning: This game seems like it would be perfect for that, I hope they add more game modes in DLC, with CTF as a priority.

(H0RSE) #4

I’m 99% sure that they won’t, and 100% glad if they don’t. You want CTF, go play Quake or UT.

(Reanimator) #5

I want to play Brink, I don’t see how adding game modes in DLC will affect you in any way, I would be glad if they had a bunch of game modes to choose from even if I didn’t play most of them.
As I said the parkour style of Brink would be perfect for CTF, I would probably not play it that much but I would love to play it Brink-style nonetheless.

(H0RSE) #6

There’s a reason their previous games didn’t have those gamemodes - some things you just don’t do. It would be like buying a brand new Ferrari, and having it converted to an automatic.

(Nail) #7

CTF, DM, and TDM or KOTH just don’t go with the objectives. All new maps would have to be created, making the game something entirely different from what it is. There’s already tons of other games that do those modes well enough

(Reanimator) #8

I dont see how CTF would be a problem with existing maps if they (the levels) are designed with balance in mind. I know the gameplay is all objective-based, and I don’t see how CTF can’t be objective-based because it certainly can.

(H0RSE) #9

The maps just aren’t arena with objectives thrown in - they are built around the objectives. Regardless, I think the point is that the chances are slim to none on seeing any CTF in the game.

(Reanimator) #10

I just would like to see what a CTF type game would be like using Brinks unique gameplay system, that’s all I’m saying regardless of if it will actually happen.

(BioSnark) #11

Yup, but it would be good for mappers if SD included ctf/tdm for the SDK. Arena maps are the easiest way for mappers to cut their teeth.

(signofzeta) #12

lol, the console players don’t even touch objective based gameplay. As bad as Wolfenstein may seem, right now, the PC players, or what’s left of them, play the objective mode, and almost all the matches in the console versions are all TDM.

If they had a choice of TDM vs objective in Brink, I don’t think the objective based gameplay would even be popular for consoles, unless it was the only thing that they were allowed to choose, which is the case right now.

(Nail) #13

if I wanted to play CTF or DM, I’d play games that specialized in those modes, W:ET, ET:QW and Brink are objectve games. That’s what I like, that’s what SD makes… live with it

^ pretty much this. They seem much more…simple minded. Just today, someone on the xbox forums told me that the single player in MW and MW2 is better than the Half Life games. They like the “Michael Bay” version of games.

(.Chris.) #15

No they wont.

(Exedore) #16

There are CTF-like mechanics in some places of Brink, but we won’t ever do ‘pure’ CTF because it’d be like taking a step backwards from what we’re trying to do.

(ispellcorrectly) #17

I can see now that not EVERY quake wars player has/will move over, but I believe if the game is marketed correctly, rather than what it is now.

At the moment there are a few demo’s on their website but I have not seen any advertisements for it, I probably only come across it because its developed by the same developers that helped develop the game I currently play

RtCW had CTF… well more capture point CTF where you have to control all flag points throughout the map to win the round. Was fun for a quick blast, but certainly never reached any major popularity.

Any way, if we’re talking additional game modes, i’d rather have a defrag style mode

reckon ctf could be popular on the console. personally, i’d love to see some kinda duel-mode where u can play 1v1 or 2v2.

A duel mode wouldn’t work though, its an objective based game. To me, it doesn’t look like your regular Fraggers game.
