first of all let me say that, Splash damage, you guys rock, i really like brink, it’s a fantastic team based game.
there are some kinks that need to be worked out like online lag, i’m sure you guys are working on that.
i’m here to talk about the one save file issue, imo, i think it’s a pretty risky save system.
the other day, i loaded up brink and a message popped up saying that my save data is corrupted, ( ps3 version ) i lost all progress, i had to restart from scratch. btw, i never quit the game at the character selection screen or when the game is saving.
now from what i have been looking at on the internet, save file corruption is a known issue on PC version and a patch is out for that platform. however now it looks like save file corruption is also present on PS3 version, even though a lot rarer. on bethesda official brink tech support forum, 2 other guys mentioned this in a thread regarding this, so now there are 3 known cases so far, but i’m sure there are more. i think the possible cause is that the save file happened to get dropped on a bad sector on the harddrive. it’s rare, nevertheless, it exposed a flawed save system.
as gamers we all know the merit of creating multiple save files in any games. but with only one save file for ALL your progress is a bit risky. i mean brink saves a lot, you change your appearance, it saves, you change your weapon it saves, finish a map it saves. if the save file happens to get dropped on a bad sector on the hard drive, or if you have a power blackout when it saves, or game crashes during map change when it saves, all progress is lost.
i recommend that you guys patched the save system to create 2-3 separate save files, each time the game saves, it saves with a different save file than the previous save action. this way, if the latest save file is corrupted, the game will fallback on the 2nd latest save file, and we only lose a very small amount of progress.
right now, in order to insure my save file is preserved, i’m backing up my save file periodically, i suggest all of us gamers do the same regardless of the gaming platform. i hope SD can address this issue.
peace out.
