One Question: Does Brink have competititve Vs Multiplayer?

(Nayr) #1

I’ve been looking for a straight forward answer. Can I play this on XBL or on LAN with one team vs another team with settings and gametypes of my choosing?

I know the SP and MP is supposed to be integrated and what not and I saw gametypes like KotH listed in some articles but I haven’t heard a answer that answered this question up front.

I’m curious because I like lanning and playing games competitively. I’d still enjoy the game regardless but a game I can play both casually and competitively is a plus.

I’d also like to know about the game setting customization. Not the visual customization but things like player speed, weapon damage, gametype settings, etc. This isn’t as important but it’s definitely something I’d like to see addressed in a interview. But I know the character customization is more appealing to the majority of gamers.

If I can get an answer I’d appreciate it. Or hell if you can tell me when I can get an answer that would help as well.

PS - I love this game so far, haven’t been this excited for a title since Shadowrun.

I think that SD is almost one of the last dev team who support competition for their games, but I think that like in ET / ETQW a promod will be made by the community to allow more tweak and league rules.

Peace

They better support LAN or I’ll never be able to convince my friends to get it.

If memory serves right, Paul and Ed explicitly stated that LAN and comp functionality are here to stay.

Or was it Richard?

Most standard Steamcloud games support LAN (All the Valve Games, Synergy, Killing Floor etc).

There is no ETTV-like for now.

I feel pretty safe in saying you can have one all human team versus another all human team ^^.

As for details of settings etc, we will obviously have to see as we go along on the itty bitty details, but there have been mentions here and there of specific features having an off switch. Iirc the “sense” upgrade, which tells you when someone is lining up on you will have an off setting for games, according to a dev in irc. Hopefully that is a decent example of sd precluding the need for a comp mod in order to customise game rules.

I really hope they give us the options (or even the mod tools) to tweak the settings. For instance I would play exclusively in hardcore servers where a headshot is a headshot and 2-3 bullets will bring you down for good.

Quoted for the future.
