On TK-Revive and Friendly Fire

(Stormchild) #1

It hit me quite recently actually : Almost no TK-revive in game.

I think this is because the health boost of the medic fills up the life bar + pips completely in one go, whereas in previous games, revive would provide more health than a health pack, so if your friend was almost dead, it was more efficient to finish him and revive him than give him x health packs which took forever.

Then again, this is only about servers with FF “on”. I for one prefer FF because no FF like in TF2 (yeah I know the game is built around it so it can’t change) gives bad habits like shooting all your friends for spy checking which defeats the principles of looking how your friends act and if it fits their role etc. It also makes you fire with less consideration, and grenade or slide mindlessly.

So I would love to see more servers with FF ‘on’. I think Brink works kinda well with FF on (as opposed to TF2 that would be unplayable with FF on, imo).

What’s your take on this ? Do you miss TK-revive (remember the specific radio-command in ETQW “Hold on, I’m gonna TK-revive you !”) ? Is it good that it disappeared or is it a lost bit of “culture” in previous SD games ? Do you prefer FF or no FF and why ?

On a side note, I think a french architect is on his way to make a beta version of the Ark : City in the Ocean in Dubai

It interrupts the player in whatever he was doing. Really glad to see these abominable antics gone.

i am happy its gone, but i also was a fan of it in wolf:et, etqw.

but it wasnt designed correctly back then and could be used for exploits. the reason one was doing it, is because its cheaper.

if i teamkill a player with only 10% hp left and revive him, it doesnt cost as much supplies as dropped healthpacks. so, you just waste a bullet in the head, teamkill, revive. one supply gone, 100% hp back.

it was actually exploited on both sides. me as a medic who wants to get fast xp and be as effective as possible. and on the other side, me as a player with almost no hp left who wants to get back to the battle quickly.

i used to jump before medics, actually typing, kill me, so i can get revived with 100% hp. and thats not really the intention behind the revive system i guess.

TK-revive makes as much sense as medics healing with axes in QuakeWorld Team Fortress. Or as much as nipples on a breastplate.

anyone else think -XP you get from hitting your team is a bit over the top?

i got -600 recently for not even killing one of my team! he walked infront of me as i unloaded. bit silly really. plus things like mines can give you massive -xp if one of your team is near a mine when it goes off.

TK revive wouldn’t work in Brink, the process is too slow for it. It only worked in the other games because reviving was instant.

Brink would be shoot, stand back, wait for prompt, throw needle, player holds syringe button, get up.
RtCW/ET is shoot, revive.

Yeah, it’s a bit over the top. Should also be turned off for HE charges, as it’s impossible for the planter to prevent people from staying to close when it blows.

Would also be interesting to see exactly how much FF XP loss (if any) you accumulated pr. match.

I only play on FF servers, and I don’t miss TK revive at all

I never played ETQW but team killing your teamate then reviving him sounds a bit wtf lol, I only play in public and im ok with FF on or off tbh, FF makes it less spammy I guess.

But i hate the fact that the slides do damage to your own team, dudes keep sliding in you, not on purpose but to escape enemys and etc with FF on and your health drains lol.

About loosing Xp from hiting yout teamates I agree that its -xp over the top lol, but personally I don´t care much about xp because after level 20 is kinda pointless.

If youre at the point where XP dont matter anymore, you are already in the game.

XP are a mechanism for rewarding (mostly) new players if they do something right. Therefore its very wrong to punish them for doing an HE objective correctly. Its just a wrong sign for doing the obviously right!

I haven’t played that many Brink FF games, can you lose a level if you end the match with -XP?

Yeah, not to mention the automatic health regen makes it obsolete. Seems like SD didn’t like the TK-Revive mechanic and tried their best to make it ineffectual.

(FireWorks) #11

No you can only drop to 0xp per match. Never lose below or have actual negativ XP on the scoreboard.

(Jimmy James) #12

That doesn’t sound so bad, especially if you are already max level.

(DarkangelUK) #13

Going by how easy it is to rack up XP, if you manage to get back down to 0 then you’re either really bad and should be practicing offline more with bots, or doing it on purpose and should be kicked from the server :stuck_out_tongue:

(Achtung) #14

U have self heal so no TK revive is needed.

(Fatfool) #15

Friendly fire’s a must. Otherwise, I won’t be able to rack up my unintentional TKs

Try playing as a soldier with an ez nade + Lobster GL.

(Kalbuth) #16

errr… TK-revive was used because in terms of supply (“pips” in brink), it was less costly to a medic, and faster, to kill then revive, than to throw 3 or 4 health packs to somebody
In brink, you heal fully with 1 pip, it is the complete opposite, TK-revive in brink would be silly

I like it the Brink way too, it’s different, so what?

yup! dangerous! good for killing the bot on levels like CC
