On the topic of being stuck with Cobalt loadouts

(Monty) #1

So yeah: today I have 274 clocked hours on this game according to steam. I did buy the starter pack, but as for every other locked merc, I have bought them using the credits earned in game. With these 274 hours, I’ve also gotten one crappy random cobalt phantom loadout from a regular case, and today I finally had enough loadouts to trade up for my first cobalt nader loadout.

What I wanted:

  • SM41 - what I currently use. Its the augments: 20% less damage from explosions, and 10% bigger explosions. The pistol clip size is nice too.

What I could have settled for:

  • CR81 - Pretty much the same as above. Perhaps better primary weapon that what my number once choice has.
  • SM72 - I admit: I am drawn towards the unshakable augment. Bit of a life safer against other naders, fletchers, sometimes fraggers and even proxies.
  • KE81 - Quick draw is handy with the failsafe, as that gives you that little extra flexibility in close range combat.
  • CR83 - Quick draw with more ammo, not as ideal as above, but more ammo is more ammo.
  • KE72 - Double time lets you have some mobility in running and gunning.
  • CR72 - Double time and finish the enemy team using a MG? It is a possibility.
  • KE43 - Recently I have been jumping around quite a lot, so avoiding the fall damage is handy. Not to mention that with 120 hitpoints, you are often a sneeze away from dying, so the faster health regeneration is kind of neat.

What I got:

  • SM43 - It has drilled, but reloading speed has never been an issue while playing as a nader. Not to mention that with the recent drop in SMG-9’s range, the focus augment doesn’t really offer much. After the last update it has been more difficult to force distant jars of vaseline to duck for cover.

So yeah… before trading up, I was thinking that I got about 8/9 chance to get something I could use in that lovely shade of blue. But instead… I just got what I got.

Well, the silver lining is: now I have lot less unused loadouts to wade through. But still, I kind of wish there was some way to reroll your cobalts, or trade down to something else.

Don’t worry friend. We’ve been promised something to do with unwanted cobalts “in about two updates time”. Which means it’ll probably arrive before the end of the year

@MarsRover Before people get TOO hyped about the possibility of something coming for the cobalt card problem “in about 2 updates time”, I would like to clarify @Critalix said it a little in passing so it was hard to really tell if the information was 100% accurate.

For now I’d take it as “There’s definitely something coming in the short term, but there’s no fixed date for it” as opposed to “There will definitely be something in 2 updates time”.

Just wanted to clarify this <3

Yeah, I’ll admit I got carried away. Luckily both silver skins are nice so I’ll just trade up to Silver and wait for some reasonable way to deal with Cobalts.

Too many unused Cobalts due to perk system’s BIS loadouts and bad RNG
Too many unused Cobalts due to bad RNG
Too many unused Cobalts
Trade 14 Cobalts and 30k for one Platinum Card, 0.005% In Regular Case, 0.5% in Elite

Worked for Gold didn’t it

If there were any card beyond cobalt, I don’t think it would be in regular cases…

Also I think it would be good to see card that is crafted by puttingone four bronzes, three silver, two gold and one cobalt.

And that card can be trade downed to cobalt again. Just my opinion

If there is a higher tier than cobalt without repeat protection I will refuse to trade up to it. I don’t really have that much of an interest to trade up beyond cobalt even if it does have repeat protection. Cobalts already cost 25-ish dollars a pop.

Each time you trade up a tier you need to use more and more cards. Shit if gold needs 6 cards to trade up you’re already looking at 150 dollars worth of cobalts to trade up to 1 diamond.

Which is re-fucking-diculous considering I have cobalt repeats I can’t use in the first place because so far they have refused to put any repeat protection in the game.

(Faraleth) #9

@Sniff I think we have nothing to fear! They did clarify Diamond was an old WIP prior to cobalt, however cobalt effectively took it’s place - and thus diamond as a concept is already “in the game”, it’s simply cobalt. I am doubtful we will see another tier above it considering, as you said, the cost of cobalts are already incredibly high.

(Samniss_Arandeen) #10

Maybe there’s a way for us to combine two loadout cards; one with the desired loadout, the other that’s really high value.

(_Sniff_) #11

@Faraleth I hope so. Maybe I’m just overly wary but I heard more diamond cards were found in the client after the last content patch.

I would be heartbroken to see Splash Damage try to take the easy way out. Repeat protection is something I can’t stress needing enough. No matter what.

What I would LOVE to see happen though.

1 Cobalt and 100,000 Credits to trade up for a Diamond.
Or
Cobalt reroll system and Diamonds exclusively in Equipment cases and are incredibly hard to drop.

(Faraleth) #12

@Sniff Well honestly there were some people who went digging in game files before, such as when an unreleased map was found, and these cards were also found at that time.

For what I gathered from the whole “leaked card” situation was that someone actually took the images a user posted on this forum (of the Phoenix diamond card) and claimed they had found them, themselves. Now, people began believing these were added with the Phoenix update because Phoenix was the first shown Diamond card AND the copy/paste poster said “these were added with the phoenix update” (because they didn’t actually find them, themself) - however this was not the case, they were in the game files a long time before.

Basically, from what I can see, and that Nexon has told us regarding the state of the diamond cards - it was a bunch of hype and nonsense that someone leaked to reddit, and nothing is really ever going to come of the cards. xD

I guess only time will tell if this holds up or not though

(Monty) #13

Okay good to know that something might be coming around.

But speaking of possible new loadout, I think calling it ‘diamond’ is the wrong way to go. Because it could be just called ‘Elite.’ You know, based on the competetive rankings and the skins could come with either blood red or midnight blue, along with skull decals if not actual skull facepaints. (And bone white could be the third option.)

And lets face it, silver’s carbon skins already kind of do the whole ‘diamond’ thing.

(Harlot) #14

Honestly, the entire card system is flawed beyond belief. There is no reason augments should be tied to weapons should be tied to skins. I should be able to use ANY Fragger weapon with Unshakeable and Explodydendron. Instead, I’m shoehorned into the M4. Honestly just piss-poor design that is now so ingrained it cannot be changed.

(K1X455) #15

Silver is probably the worst cause most maps make you stand out.

(MarsRover) #16

Yeah, fuck all those RPGs. I should be able to have 18/18 in all stats!

A tier above cobalt wouldn’t work without some way of guaranteeing a certain loadout. Otherwise, the problem with useless cobalts will be transferred onto the new tier. It would just be a waste of time.

And damn cobalts are ~$25? I’ve spent over $300 and only have 8. :frowning:

This.
The moment they started charging money for this, I knew that we were fucked, and that we had very little chance of ever seeing the system changed for the better, and now it’s just kind of accepted as it is.
The only positive thing about this system is that they managed to at least avoid making it P2W, in the sense that with enough grinding you can get the best stuff that is available.

I’m guessing that they were aiming to make “buying skins” appealing to both kind of players; those who want bling, and those who just want the best augments, but I think that’s a dumb approach to monetization, seeing how neither of these types of players now get what they really want.
The bling is super limited, and there’s no real customization to it, which is what people generally want.
The augments are predetermined, and there’s 0 customization involved.

What should had been done:

A ) Test augments and actually get them to work, before going into open beta.

B ) Allow complete customization of augments (maybe excluding some augments from certain mercs, in some cases, for balancing reasons), and take the competitive community’s feedback on how to balance and fine tune, both augments and the mercs.

C ) Separate merc skins from weapon skins, and on top of these 2 add accessory skin (no stupid hats, just special ammo/medpack/minigun/revivr skins) and allow players to assign each merc three separate skin cards, for actual bling customization, so they can feel special.
e.g. Dank weed gold Sawbonez, with a cobalt weapon + a hello kitty medpack, or whatever the heck you have.
